[Finished] July 2013 painting challenge

So. We have decided to pick up the monthly challenges again and the theme for this month will be :

Object Source Lightning, or OSL

The entire model does not have to be covered in this effect, a little detail with OSL will suffice.

But remember the pictures should show the OSL good.

Deadline will be the 31.july at 23:00 GMT

Happy painting.

although there are 500 unread posts for me to go through, I'm glad I logged on today. I have a bit of an idea on this painting technique, but does anyone have a good tutorial for me to try out?

This little tutorial is a nice way to start.
Otherwise I bet you can find pretty neat guides on YouTube with a quick search.

This guide helped me immensely to improve my technique: http://handcannononline.com/blog/2011/0 ... -lighting/

Also, can I take part in the comp with something I've already done or does it have to be a new piece?

Glowing spites on Drycha and such...

It doesn't have to be a new piece at all, but if you wanted to paint a new piece for the contest then you could!

The problem lies in the fact that I do not have any WE models on which to use OSL at the moment and a huge lag in painting other minis. If it can be any mini at all then I might submit something except my Drycha :)

No need for it to be a Wood Elf model either. Any model, any system, any manufacturer. Just so long as it fits the theme of the contest (in this case, OSL) you can enter it :)

OK then. Maybe I'll manage to get something new done by the end of July (although chances are rather slim, it's summer time and kids won't leave me alone to my devices). If I won't get a chance to finish anything that would be satisfactory you can consider my Drycha a contest entry :)

It can of course be any model/system you'd like, As Beithir said.. Also it doesn't have to be a huge part of the model. It could be just the eyes, a jewel that emits light, a potion bottle with a nasty glowing concoction....only be shure that the pictures bring forth the OSL effect.

Not sure if I'm going to be able to finish my most recent OSL mini of a Spellweaver with a glowing Amber Spear - would have made a great entry but not enough time to paint her :tear:

So I started to skim back through my photo folders and look what I found. Started last spring on this guy and then had a great idea for practising some OSL on an entire unit. Unfortunately it doesn't look like I got any photos of the full effect before I handed them to my brother for his army - and I never did finish the basing coz his army aint finished and I didn't want them to 'not fit' with his scheme. The unit is there purely for reference and to show why there's another, eerie blue, glowing effect on him.

I present "Chaos Sorceror Lord Vraxx, upon his trusty Daemonic Steed Fido":

And with his (mostly painted!) entourage of enscorcelled hand-weapon knights:

Lot of fun to paint them - pretty damn tough too!

I know it is late to add, but I painted a friends tank last month and decided to put some accent lighting on it. Let me know what you think.. Although I didn't finish it completely, I will add more detail to it this week I think. I think I need to add some brightness to the bulb.

Sorry for the late call, but we have a winner:

Beno with his Chaos Knights

Congratulations :)
