[C] WFO: TheMiz (WE) v. Beithir 2000 (Empire) pts.

Post by TheMiz »

Hi Beithir,
Thanks for the game! I want to use the same list I used in a local 2000 pt tournament this past weekend. I am confident I would have done better is someone didn't make me back down regarding the BoL/AB combo.

I decided to just pick a map (actually I searched for one from shiodome, since I like his scenery so much). Here it is:

Image
Lets call the building a tower. Let's make the other terrain difficult but passable (unless you think some of it should be impassible), with a hill and a river/bridge.

Here is my list (I should mention I made this to comply with WPS requirements, it registers as a 16 (or so) on WPS, but feel free to make your list as fluffy or tough as you desire):
Lord
Highborn, Alter Kindred, Light Armor/Shield, Great Weapon, Arcane Bodkins, Bow of Loren, Glamourweave - 282 pts

Heroes
Noble, Great Eagle steed, spear, light armor/shield, Hail of Doom Arrow, The Helm of the Hunt - 181 pts

Spellsinger, Level 2, Calaingor's Staff, Dispel Scroll - 175 pts.

Branchwraith, Annoyance of Nettlings - 90 pts.

Core
Glade Guard x10 - 120 pts.

Glade Guard x 10 - 120 pts.

Glade Riders x 5, musician - 129 pts.

Glade Riders x 5, musician - 129 pts.

Dryads x 8 - 96 pts.

Dryads x 8 - 96 pts.

Special
Wardancers x 7 - 126 pts.

Warhawk Riders x 3 - 120 pts.

Rare
Treeman - 285 pts.

Great Eagle - 50 pts.

And my template:

I started a dicelog (PM me you address so I can add you if you'd like - I don't really care if you don't want to or if you want to use a different dice server than the hamete one I'm using). Here is my roll for side:

And roll for deployment/table edge (if you want me to wait to be added to the dice log, I'll happily reroll it :) )
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

2 = 2
Only just :D

If you're happy for that roll to stand, I'll pick the bottom edge if you want to place your free wood.

Just to check; can war machines be placed on top of the tower at all?

I added you to the dice log... Please do not re-roll your deployment roll :) I'll let you get away with it this time :P

It is your call regarding War Machines in the tower. If I charged the cannon, would it be like charging a building? Can a war machine normally enter a building (or be deployed in it)? I'm too lazy to go try and look this up right now. If it is a question... like it could be either/or, then put it in there, that's fine with me.

Here's a map with my free wood:

For simplicity's sake, I won't deploy the cannon on the tower :D It's just too much bother having to deal with all the rules for war machines combined with the rules for buildings, combined with the inadequacies of the BRB :p To be honest, I'm not sure it can be in there according to the BRB (although that would also mean that all the castles in the Empire are completely cannon-free :p ) and I don't want to drag the game into unnecessary rules debates before we've even put a unit on the table :D

Before I start deploying though; can I just clarify how tall the tower is? I don't know whether you wanted to use the WFO Terrain chart (in which case, it's three storeys) or whether you had something else in mind...

Terrain chart is fine.. 3 stories sounds right.

(P.S. Thanks re: the tower + War machines I think the ensuing rule discussion would start to suck some of the fun out of it... but if it was integral to you strategy, I don't want to hose you. )

I don't really see what is happening about the grass... which probably means I am causing it.. :( Whatever is happening, I didn't do it on purpose

I'm afraid to say, I think it is you causing it. Every time you post a map it gets brighter :p Oh well. I quite like the green actually - so long as we don't end up fighting in a jungle, it'll be fine :D

I don't know why it color transforms.... I think I had that problem before. We can always reset the pieces on the original board after deployment.

wow it got really bright that time... sorry

EDIT: So I replaced the pieces on the board... that should fix colors for now... I've been using a GIMP derivative for the Mac called Seashore... maybe I'll have to switch all the way over to GIMP. Make sure you reload the page if you have a really bright copy.

Crossbowmen in the tower (I've put the whole unit down "on top" so we can keep track of casualties)

Just to check, the bridge doesn't block LoS does it?

No, I do not think the bridge should block LOS. I defined the other terrain pieces (the ones in quadrants 1, 2, 5 and the piece on the hill) as difficult terrain, at the beginning, and I would say they don't block LOS either (unless you think differently, because I am flexible) and I don't really think they should provide any cover either, because often that kind of terrain does not. SO only the hill, the woods, the tower and other models would block LOS.

Nope, that's all fine with me. Being as you hadn't said so at the start, I assumed the other terrain didn't block LoS but I just wanted to check about the bridge after I put my cannon there :D

You know, we've completely forgotten to roll for spells :p

My Lv.2 will use the Lore of Shadow:
Result of the throw of dice "2d6" :

3 + 5 = 8
That's Crown of Taidron and Unseen Lurker. I'll swap Crown of Taidron for Steed of Shadows

My Lv.1 will take Lore of Fire:
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

6 = 6
That's Wall of Fire, which I'll swap for Fireball
