Advice on painting wardancers/a lot of elf skin

Post by Greven »

Hello everyone!

I would really appreciate some advice on how to paint elf skin and wardancers. I want as good looking as possible using a simple method.

there are so many ways to do it -

Personally I highlight (quite strongly) about 5 highlights from tanned flesh up to bleached bone - check out one of my wardancer units here :

That's the same as I do actually, though I stop at Elf Flesh. It's a very good way to do it. Though I begin with Scorched Brown so the Tanned Flesh goes on clearly on the black.

oops forgot to mention - i give entire model and wet brush of scorched brown first and the skin gets a bestial brown wash before the tanned flesh.

and i dont use any elf flesh - just the tanned flesh with more bleached bone added in each highlight.

I have just been painting the skin on my elfs elf flesh, really watered down chestnut ink, then a drybush of bleached bone and elf flesh mixed together. but ive been looking around and i think im gonna try dwarf flesh, then chestnut ink wash, then elf flesh highlight, then elf flesh and bleached bone mix highlight, then finally a really light highlight of bleached bone. :D

I used to do tanned flesh, chestnut ink, highlights of dwarf flesh, elf flesh, and bleached bone, now i got rid of the ink because it makes the skin look shiny, but I still think that it can work.

@minireaper Tanned flesh is too dark to be put immediately next to elf flesh, dwarf flesh is what to use. IMHO.

I go with bronzed flesh on the bottom, watered down flesh ink over that followed by an elf flesh highlight over the raised areas, nice turnout, ill post some of my pics later

The skin is really cool although I think it gives them a kind of ungry look :)

I usually start from tanned flesh to dwarf flesh to elf flesh!
