Water theme (pictures)
Hi people,
At the moment I am painting 8 glade guard in several collour themes.
Now I dunno what is a good collour combo.
My army theme become autum/water theme.
Water become a very important part of my army.
Yesterday I buy water effects from brand woodland scenics and I hope too make nice bases
My theme become brown + orenge + red + yellow or blue + green.
For pictures see post below.

If I were you I would go for either one of the other. Autumn connects with fire, by having fire and water it kinda constadicts itself. I would go for water, as you seem to want that to be your main theme. You could have the elves fluff that they live on the edge of some lake.
I would use blues and whites and bone colours and avoid the reds and oranges

I know they have no heads and the skin is not done..it's just an idea of colour combo's.
BTW I think I give the first wood elf an other colour cloak.

I agree with the Lord abourt the orange. what colour is the backs of the cloaks, and mabye add a darker or contrasting colour to make the models leap out on the board or at least look like they COULD hide from a blind hawk at midnight.

I agree on the orange cloak..The cloak become darker of collour, the orange on the body stays because all brown on the model makes it boring.
In autumn there is lot of raining and I wanna show it on base + models that they use the water too make it harder for the enemy.
supprice attacks, hiding in the mud/leafes, ect, ect..
Here are some idea's:
1. one unit glade guard are walking a bit in water.
Some times walking through water is the shortest way too get at the enemy.
2. one unit glade riders: the horses runing over a mudly/waterly surface and I wanna show the mud/water effect very cool.
3. one unit glade riders: are jumping over a big tree that is laying on the ground and...the enemy is suppriced.
4. I find the waywatchers too skinny and try too paint the skin a bit mudly.
waywatcher use nature too protect them self more and they use sand + water so the enemy see them harder.
5. 1 model is pointing some where on the ground showing a trail of the enemy. like follow a track too the enemy, hunting them down.
I have some cool idea's about charackter but that is a secret
People have idea's about convertions for my army? I like too convert. my painting is not that great and try too inmprove it.

This is a test model and painting 6 models in difference collour shemes within 2 hours is pretty hard.Dark Watcher wrote:I think the painting scheme works well. And you have some great ideas. The pointing to the trail idea is cool
Not to sound harsh or anything but you may need to buy a smaller brush. (some neatness isues) But i really like the positions of the colours.
I am not a very good painter.
I use white base coats and some points of the model the white coat is coming back some one have experiance that white coat is not a good underground for paint?

I like the second test Its quite nice and autumish
Best to use black rarther than white tho, unless you need to paint bright colours like yellow but even then i prefer to build it up from a black undercoat, that and i find white bubbles in the corners and can be a bit thick so you lose detail and its hard to totally cover

I like this one ........

The autumn-theme ... orange with the brown capes. I might even 'steal' your idea. Just to get some other colours then the plain green/brown.
If you think the orange is too orange, just wash them with brown till they get to the orangebrown you like.

The pointing idea is pure genius and if i might have liberty i might filch that idea from you. just grab a commander or a war machine mini and steal the appropriate arm. Another idea is model them lying down in the water, not sure how to accoplish this, mabye under foliage or sticking out of a tree.

There was a good article in some american GW publication of a guy who converted his skinks to be completely water based and made different skinks hiding in water and water plants on the bases. Quite cool actually. If I can find the publication I will tell you guys what it is.

I'd darken the inside of the cloak up a bit though ... Bright orange looks good as a complementary colour used sparingly, but for large patches of autumn tones such as the cloak I'd rather go for more neutral shades of (reddish) brown ... Dark Flesh or Vermin Brown perhaps.
Browns and oranges look a lot better than greens in my opinion ... Though that wintry blue scheme in your first link was quite nice as well

I put some green stuff on the glade guard bases too get a natural look:

I add sand on the greenstuffed base.
Dunno if I am making nice looking bases.

i definitely like the autumn colour scheme better than the watery one and i think the one with the dark cloak is good although if u want a reddish brown i would recommend terracotta. it is very good for a slightly reddish brown... perhaps with an undercoat of dark flesh
