Some of the old cursed company models might be appropriate. Theres like Orc skeletons and skaven ones and suchlike. Also the Mordheim range has various racial zombies.

I would file the mold lines off the models, it's a bit more work but it deffo pays off and the models will look much better.

I don't know if you've considered some of the following conversions which I think would be very typical of our our 'idealistic' image of a pirate:
peg-legs,
parrots,
pistols (forget about WYSIWYG and consider the modelling possibilities),
stylized base, like planks of wood forexample, representing their ship,
knives in mouth,
bandanas,
those scars that go across their eyes, you know the ones!

Anyway I hope that my advice has helped you in some way, love to see more pics , this army obviously has great potential.
Good luck!

hey hal! thanks for your comments mate.:)

yep, peg legs and parrots will be included, no worries.;) pistols aswell.
I thought about the bases as you´ve described them, but I think I´ll keep them beach-like.

and the mold-lines,...yes, I know. I always forget them.

off topic: you´re from Ireland, great. I´ll be in Ireland in septembre for a week, yay.

Failte roite! (welcome)

You'll be just in time for rain season then.

I did see your sea-type bases but I didn't realise that that you were going for a beach theme, very nice :D

a bhuí le! (I think that´s spelled right... :D )

no worries, I´ve been about 7 times to Eire, I like it, come rain or sun.

the plan is to make the first 3 rows/ranks "on the beach", the 4th coming out of the earth and the 5th "out of the sea". hope it will work.

I love the one with the tentacles. That should look really cool with a good paint job.

Very nice Deathwing! For the Rat Ogre one, I would try to make him look more Undead, maybe by adding some big scars and fatal wounds with a hobby nife and some moss that indicate decay. These can also be extended to the Ogre ones and it will make them look more unified.
Beware the one lurking in the shadows

I absolutely loved that article when I saw it in White Dwarf, and I love seeing someone take the time to execute it. Would you be willing to post your army list in this thread? I would be interested to see what it is.

I´ll add some more Bloated Corpses and a Banshee (converted of either a Reaper Mermaid or something else by Reaper Minis.)

I´m sure the list is not perfect, but I´d love to give it a try.

You know what'd be cool...if you spruced up the base. Added some sea-type things...sculpt a fish skeleton or some rusted loot or something.
