I like the way you painted the wood design- especially on the Eternal Guard banner. Nicely done.

Re: hpm Blog - Dragon Lord WIP

Post by henrypmiller »

I have been very busy.

Here are a few pics of my WIP Dragon Lord. Built from a winged nazgul model from the LOTR range Araloth and a metal forest dragon head from ebay. I also used a dragon prince sword.

Having problems with getting it onto the flying stand. The head is far heavier than the tail end. Attempted to balance it out with the green stuff scales and the metal spikes on the tail but it is not enough. Next option is to pin it. If that doesn't work I will drill a hole further up the body to balance it better.

Wardancers have been built and 4/10 are painted. Coming soon.

Finished painting my glade guard. Coming soon.

Built a BSB and a steed hero lord. Coming soon.

Finished 8/10 Wild riders. Coming soon.

That is a great looking spear. It makes me a bit jealous of the spear I used for my own dragon rider. Keep up the good work.

What did you use for the body of your Waywatcher Champion?

That is the level of converting I wanted to have the skills for, but didn't, when I made my own dragon. Great job so far. I look forward to see it finished.

Thanks guys!

@Hyarion:

The spear is just the Araloth one. I have since snipped the little spikes off and added a pennant.

The waywatcher champion is made from the dark elder wyches sprue (I think the legs are intended as the wyches champion as they are unique) with a wildwood ranger head and axes/arms. Cape is from the glade guard +a little green stuff. Then there is just a spare bow stuck onto the cape.

I was going to guess Harlequin legs, they look really good on that model, well done.

I don't know if the wardancers are conversions or alternate models, but those are the best looking wardancers I've seen yet.

Thanks about the comment on the Wardancers! I am really pleased with how they turned out! I have 5 more in the pipeline.

They are a bit of kitbash and some green stuff.

Like Hawkoon pointed out they are based on the plastic witch elves. I basically just swapped the dagger hands with swords from various wood elf kits on most of the models. The spear model is the witch elf banner pole with a spearhead added. The long braids are actually just the sisters whips that you get in with the witch elf box. I added a few tassles from the wild riders and high elf parts. snipped the skulls and spikes off to make it less "dark". The hair on some of the models is green stuff + cut down witch elf hair/dark elder spares. The bases are just putty replacing the weird stone things the witch elves are jumping from.

Simple but effective I think :)

I was toying with the same idea when I started my asrai army, but wasn't sure how to make them look less druchii... That and the fact that the witches are painfully expensive, made me build a list without wardancers (but with a Shadowdancer  ). If I ever expand my army I'll probably do something smiliar to your gals  They are really awesome!

I have some experience with the wardancers. I would recommend a unit of 5 in every army. They are so useful. The conversion isn't to hard but yes they are very expensive!

Thanks guys! It looks good but its not too difficult :) The other side turned out well but not as nice as the first attempt.

I'm struggling to come up with a design/picture to paint on my eagle BSB banner. Its one of the long ones from the witch elf kit, if anyone has any ideas?

In the meantime, check out my finished (run out of black paint to do the edges of the base...but finished painting) Stag Lord/Captain:

As I was clicking on the link to the Treeman image I thought how there are no Treeman conversion ideas that could surprise me any more. You, sir, proved me wrong. A wonderful blog and a very impressive Ancient.
