Alternate Glade Captain With Great Stag Model

Post by razorfate »

Hi guys,

I am looking forward to model 2 glade captains with great stags as mounts. As i didn't like the GW models, i am in search of alternate models.
I saw Annyssa Ryvaal model from PP.
Did aynone use her model as asrai with great stag? Do ou recommend this idea or are there any alternatives?

Why don't you like the bull (not meaning bull as in male moose.. but as in male cow) with the stag antlers?

It seems to be a dwarven mount rather than an elfish one:)

I converted one using a Bretonian Pegasus head with the mane taken off attached to a glade rider horse's body with dryad bits for antlers and the tail clipped short. Then just green stuff up the gaps and hide the saddle. Fur is about the easiest thing to sculpt in GS.

Personally, I love the GW 'Battle Yak'. Use him every game.

Sure, he doesn't quite have the appearance of a stag but he's like those little ancient votive statues of animals you see in museums. There's something there. I know a lot of elf players prefer a delicate, graceful look and that's great but there can be a virtue in compactness too.

I found this one, which I'm probably using as my Stag Lord.
It's a bit bulky, but the model is amazing

I like this one, it even has a standard already for our BSB. Is it a 28 mm model?

pic? can't find it on google.

Those darklands models are all very nice btw.
Certain armies could get very nice hero/lord figures from that site.. they aren't very cheap though, same prices as GW (which is high)

Another stag rider:

If we even get skaw back.... http://elementgames.co.uk/wargames-and- ... of-hrafnen
NICE option.

Ehm... antlers on helmet = woodelf lord right?

Are there going to be any GW models for the Hobbit movies? If so, the Elf King Thranduil rides a stag....

I was thinking/hoping the same thing when I saw the trailer. However his model comes with a horse :(

GW missed an opportunity there. Think how many of us use the hobbit eagles. I know I have 4 of them! I want a stag rider and I have been eying up the mierce miniatures one for a few weeks now.

I finally finished the model after a very long pause.

Here is Annysa as my staglord.

The model is beautiful and i tried to give my best while painting her. All in all i am very happy about the result.

Why don't you try to convert one steed of kurnous... you know, wild rider's mount, into the great stag? I'm trying this.
Those models are beautiful but I found them inappropriate for GW's wood elven army and model range. Annyssa is expensive, "stag" is too dormant for my taste, like "here's me strolling around while my master shoots". Also, whole model has too many heavy armor. I especially dont like stag's heavy helm for blind bambies.
Models that mr. tomrobo and mr. Aezeal/NonnoSte advised looks too bulky and big. That elf standard bearer looks like pixie on that model, and that angry guy looks like he's riding some old stag which will die soon.

Summa summarum: I was/am in same position as you are, mr. razorfate. But believe me, there's no a good alternative for our big bull with antlers. So, I took my knife and started to convert my own stagsy.

I am trying a new model for a different stag lord model. Bearrider:), the idea belongs to a form mate who had sold his wood elf army a few weeks ago. I found a Schleich figure. You can see his photo here here. The model is very big for elves, hence it can be used as a dire bear model, but iam searching for another more smaller model and i've only found this one this one, but it seems to me more a kin to a giant rat than to a bear, so i will keep on searching.

This is a WIP of my conversion.

http://s1314.photobucket.com/user/henry ... i.jpg.html

Its finished now but I have no pictures (probably will upload next week).

Its the Meirce Minatures one. I would recommend it. Its a great model and good size for a 50mm. I had to do a lot of converting though. The rider herself is a bit small and resin always has bubbles which need green-stuffing.

Very good model, the stag is same with Thranduil's mount.

To sum it all up, the alternative models are as follows, i can add more models as more people contributed:

@Henrypmiller's model: Leofwen (30£+shipping)
Image

In the Mierce Miniatures i found this great stag riding model different than yours :Kernuor (29,00 £ + shipping)
Image

I found a good looking bear riding model: Kraan (13£+Shipping)
Image

The model i used for my stag lord Annyssa Ryvaal (25 USD +Shipping)

I just came across this one on firestorm games:

http://www.firestormgames.co.uk/warrior ... -great-elk

Could be awesome with a bit of conversion (take the weird spike of its back).

Price tag is hefty though. However it is BIG. The base is 4.5"!

Yesterday as I was looking for a picture of a Thranduil's mount (for a reference), I stumbled upon these conversions. I repeat, CONVERSIONS:

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/QSE4mr1Ju3g/maxresdefault.jpg
This one is made out of horse or steed. It's for LOTR but nevertheless.

http://s18.photobucket.com/user/ukfredd ... 8.jpg.html
http://www.coolminiornot.com/373217
This one is made out of wild rider's mount, steed of Kurnous. Again, LOTR.

(I hope this can help and links are working)

I liked the 2nd pic out of the post with 4 pics.. I liked the bear a lot too but the rider clearly isn't a WE. The 2nd pic isn't cheap though.
