Line of Sight

We're a fairly new gaming group in my area and have a few different rule interpretations. I was playing a game the other day and he was trying to tell me that friendly and enemy units do not block line of sight for shooting and magic and that models only block line of sight when they are in combat. I'm 98% certain this is wrong but didn't push the issue because it was a friendly game and there's not point getting into an argument. Can you guys help me out with this?

Both correct and incorrect. It depends on which type of "Line of sight" you are using. If you are using true line of sight (i.e. following the book) then you literally have to go down to the models point of view, and check it out. Nothing blocks line of sight, unless it really does that. Easiest way to determine this would probably be by using a laser pointer, and check it out.
