Glittering Scales + Fimblewinter Shard
Do the -1's to hit on these two items stack? I'd love to have my BSB at -2 to hit in combat. 5's at best...

Sure do.
Canons do not care though.

True, but if in an Eternal Guard Block and given a 5+ Rhymer's harp ward, I think I'll be ok.

There are better options in the Eternal Guard death star.

Re: Glittering Scales + Fimblewinter Shard
I really like Glittering Scales + Fiblewinter Shard for the BSB.
Probably the only better option in the Eternal Guard death star is to give him Armour of Silvered Steel and Luckstone.
But I think the AoSS is mandatory for the Highborn who has room for the Dawnstone instead.
Other Builds are a bit fragile for a key character like the BSB, in my opinion.
You can always go for Rageth Wildfire Blades + Dragon Helm + Stone of Rebirth, but i'll rather use this on a 3rd character and leave the BSB in the 2nd rank with the mage.

Re: Glittering Scales + Fimblewinter Shard
I usually just give the BSB the Obsidian Lodestone in the death star. That way the whole unit has 2++ vs magic (when you add in the Rhymer's harp) and I keep the BSB and the wizard in the second rank away from combats.

Don't characters have to get into CC if they can?

Not if they're not already in base contact, and if there's enough other characters plus command group to keep them in the second rank. Characters that aren't in base contact have the option of "pushing through" to the fighting rank, but they don't have to if you don't want them to.

What Beithir said. In addition to full command with Razor Banner, I run four Eternal Kindred Nobles and a Highborn, so I get a full rank of characters fighting, forcing my opponents to split their attacks. Savage Beast of Horros becomes the best spell in the game with this set up. 36 S7 AP attacks at min WS6 I7 will delete pretty much any unit. Roll on ASF!

From kakwah
Even better, put him in a unit with a character with the Dawnspear, cause a wound with it and they're -3 to hit . Ooops, him or her of course!Sure do.
Re: Glittering Scales + Fimblewinter Shard
I run this combo in my ETC Stag bus currently, and have found that it has a profound psychological effect on my opponents. The minus 2 (sometimes 3) causes then to direct attacks at "harder" targets. The stupity isn't that bad at ld10 with a bsb in the unit.

How many points can you run this in?godswearhats wrote:What Beithir said. Okay, I wasn't sure if they had to displace Command or not but then 4 nobles too. If only they were cheaper and had Primal Fury,.. and you could turn one into a Mtn Chimera :P
edit: I had no clue why I thought that also given the classic build with the lvl 4 in the second rank. brain fart.

Re: Glittering Scales + Fimblewinter Shard
If you run your Highborn with a fairly light setup, you can squeeze this into 2200. However, it's better if you can kit him out a reasonable amount and run it in 2400 or 2500. You're dropping 350 on the Spellweaver (Rhymer's Harp, Dispel Scroll) so spending 200-250 on the Highborn is what dictates the minimum army size.Blackcat wrote:How many points can you run this in?
If you don't get Savage Beast (happens roughly 1 in 10 games), run the formation as a horde and use Wyssans to maximize attacks. S4 (S5 on the characters) AP attacks are still pretty good.
