a publication history question

Post by dusk1983 »

I believe wood elves haven't been around since warhammer's inception.

I was wondering when Wood Elves were introduced as a playable race?

I was also wondering if Wood Elves have always been part of the Athel Loren Mythos, or were they just Averlorn Elves?

The only reason I ask is the fact that the 'wood elf' bloodbowl team are called the Avelorn Avengers. Which is weird, because Averlorn is on Ulthuan.

And YES I employed my mighty google-fu but it availed me not.
...So if you're addressing me direct, just call me Lance or Dusk, no 1983 please.

Well they have been around since at least third edition... there was a WD article back in the early 90s (or earlier??) in which Mike McVey did a WE army. It's the article that first got me interested in them (although it took another 15 years to actually buy any, what with all the HE, Bretonians and Dwarves I collected in the mean time). I never saw 2nd edition WHFB, so not sure when they first came into being. That said, wood elves go back to Tolkien and the mythos he leveraged, D&D (which featured in early WD magazines) and other peer worlds, so could assume they have always been there in some form.

Wood Elves were present in Warhammer when I was first introduced to the game in '88 or '89. All the literature I have seen on the subject indicates that they were one of the original races. Can't put my hand on a Bible and swear to it though. Time to do some net digging.
So it's no longer the BRB, now it's the DERB. (Digital Edition Rule Book) I am all in for 9th Age.
