Drycha 1500 (I know)

Post by Moose123 »

So I have been dreaming of using a all forest spirit army. With Drycha. The idea is to hopefully get lots of forests on the board to teleport and ambush out of. I have played this list against a lizardmen player in my area, he only just beat me, stupid Slann :tear: Anyway the list is very heavy on combo charging a good target and using any means to get there. Magic won't do too much but I figure my magic defence is pretty good with a mage and 2 extra dispell dice. Anyhoo here is the list.

355 The evil branchwraith herself. ( Drycha)

65 Branchwraith ( Drycha's little helper.)

132 11 dryads ( Drycha's brain washed saplings.(Drycha goes with her brain washed saplings BTW))
120 10 dryads (Branchwraith with these girls)
120 10 dryads

130 5 wild riders with the free muscian (For warmachine hunting)
195 3 treekin
195 3 treekin

285 Treeman

So I was considering getting rid of the wild riders for another small unit of dryads and a cluster of radiants on the other branchwraith for some really good magic defence. Now I intend to use this list as soon as I get a game in. Who knows how long that could take.

I am ready for all you critics out there, but I am mostly looking for tactical advice.

You are now all fight and no shoot. Magic can defend but not harm. Close and engage as fast as you can. I think I would be tempted to put my Dryads into units of 8 for more maneuverability but larger units will last in a forest. Flip a coin? Try to dance and hold with the Dryads while bringing up the big guns behind their screen. Nobody can run so flight is not an option. Against heavy armored fast movers stay in the trees. Try to get opponent to commit to TK and TM between Dryad units. Beyond that I can't forsee. Bon chance.

its nice to see a full forest spirit army being used, and the list doesnt look bad either! I'dbe tempted to try and squeeze a wild rider noble in there to give his buddies some wollop!

This unit costs 144pts.

Nice list, i would prefer a tma and use only 8 dryads per unit, hero killer and more units for redirecting, but that' s just me.

Lain your avatar gives me a snickering fit every time I see it. Your army should get a "black pit of despair" to bring to the battlefield instead of free trees.

Opponent; "What the hell is that?"
Lain; "That's our black pit of despair. We never leave home without it."

Any worries on the lack of BSB?
I know at 1500 pts, the need of a BSB is up for debate.
<Edit: I also realize you can't take a BSB in a Drycha List, "Hey may not be a member of a KIndred" (WEAB, pg 50'ish, Sidebar)>

My concern, with any MSU type army, is your going to be subject to break/panic tests more frequently, just based on the smaller unit size. I think with Skirmishers, that chance increases even further.

Against a 20 brick of vanilla warriors (something you will most likely encounter @ 1500 pts), there is a pretty decent chance he's going to have something like +3/4 (2-3 Ranks + Banner) when combat resolution comes around. Rolling on L8 isn't bad, but L5/6 is TOUGH. Even with the damage potential of Dryads, knowing your going to have to consistenly out wound the other guy by 3+ is a tough pill to swallow, for me anyway.

Just something to consider.

Love the list though.

Well my whole army is immune to phsyc. That should help out a bit with panic. As for break tests I intend to swarm over one unit at a time hopefully by using Drycha's army rule to ambush out of forests and to teleport one unit of dryads around.

Mixed the list up. Thanks Alanthrasil.

Haha - i have a crater for this. Any killed General is thrown inside :D

@Moose123:

The smaller Dryad units are not for breaking an enemy unit, they serve as great eagles.
Sure, they are slower and cost twice as much, but they do damage...
You can let your opponent overrun them into a second unit, with i6 they will strike first and kill something. With smart placement the enemy will be decimated and in a good position for your heavy hitters.
When fighting against a horde you can "double-charge" with two units, this is giving you 24 ws4 s4 i6 attacks - not bad for under 200pts.
You can sacrifice them for mage and bsb hunting and even slip through the enemy lines to kill his shooters and warmachines.
But you can not, NEVER, charge frontal and expect to win. No matter how many Dryads are in your unit.
Somebody mentioned panictests - ITP - no problem here...

For blood and glory you will need the standard on your wildriders - sadly.
Your Branchwraith has no purpose, so (imho) she has to go. For this points you get an additional rider+ standard.

My list at 1500pts is nearly similar (Swap drycha for a TMA) and it works.
This army looks like a CC army, but you need to win by movement - this should work even better with Drycha in your list.
I play Forest Spirit MSU since the beginning of 8th ed. and have yet to loose a game (granted, i don´t play often anymore).
Try it, try something different - "All trees, no archers? No mages? No flyers? What´s his plan? Is he crazy? "
Your opponents will be shocked when you deploy. You can see FEAR in their faces (insert evil laughter here).

Cheers,
Lain

Damn it your right. Okay time to rework the list. Will do this later.

Glad to hear some people saying that a all forest spirit Drycha list can work. In my other lists I only use dryads in units of 8 for reasons already described. My thinking is that my dryads need to be able to hold units in forests for 1 maybe two rounds of combat, so units of 10 are better for that purpose. I also wanted a good unit for Drycha to teleport around in and guard her from evil tree cutters I like the idea of a branchwraith and she was only in their to fill up points, I am so used to writing lists with great eagles I always seem to leave extra points at the end. So lose the branchwraith and get more wild riders and a standard bearer in the list. also filling out core will be no problem with the branwraith gone.

Revised list right here.

1500

355 drycha

384 points 4x 8 dryads

260 4 treekin

214 7 wild riders, free muso, standard bearer with the standard of swiftness.

285 treeman

So slightly different more wild riders and less treekin.

This looks good.
If you feel uncomfortable with Drycha in a small unit you can add 5 dryads and try a 5 man WR unit.
This would make your only standart very vulnerable, but if you don't play scenarios it could be worth a try.
At 2000pts just add as many treekin and dryads as you can get.

Thanks Lain, I had thought of that but I don't want to lose because my wild riders die. The other scenario I am dreading is the watchtower, because I don't have anything that could hold it except maybe the treekin.

I will try to post up a battle report soon.

So I played a game with this list against a mean beastmen double horde list, gors with 206 BSB and bestigors. The list performed well enough teleporting and ambushing but it was my terrible luck that got me tabled by turn 5. Drycha took 1 wound from a razorgor missile that was fine, then My treeman took 3 wounds from another charging razorgor that was not fine. Cygor sniper the treeman for another 2 wounds that was lucky for me, but then the gors hacked treeboy,(he is no longer a man) in half. Drycha and her unit teleported with an ambushing treekin and a unit of dryads unit for a triple charge on the bestigor block that already lost 9 men to one treekin unit then the worst thing possible happened.
Drycha mannaged to hit with all six attacks and then failed to wound anything, rolling 6 one's I have photographic evidence for you sceptics out there.

http://i1242.photobucket.com/albums/gg5 ... CN2090.jpg

Drycha then got hacked down by some bestigors and the rest of my army went down as well.

Now can anyone tell me the chances of rolling six ones, thanks.

So I think I asked him for another game and I will get rid of drycha for a treeman ancient with AON.

Your first list didn't look that bad. I would take that lone BW with Pagaent and Cluster.

Just spam woods and deep strike them all! Having a 20-man Dryad unit escort Drycha and support would be funny.
