Wow! Really cool conversion, it really looks swift and "ambushy" (I think I've just made the word out )
She looks very good, and like a serious challenge to paint (at least to me, when it comes to paint, tangled branches = pain )
Good luck, can't wait to see her painted! (and the WD too...)
Salut

And how alive though it seems

I just saw the new winged Nazgul kit, and I think that I have found the perfect base from which to build my Forest Dragon

Great stuff, Skarloc! I like the shape, the detail, the colours and absolutely everything about these guys. (Did that sound American, I think so... ) Anyway, I mean it!

Thank you Herald.Herald wrote:Great stuff, Skarloc! I like the shape, the detail, the colours and absolutely everything about these guys. (Did that sound American, I think so... ) Anyway, I mean it!
American?................It's hard for me to tell considering i am in North America myself
I am happier with the second Tree Kin, I painted him grey originally, and then washed him up to the brown you see now, the first guy was painted using browns....I think I like the fact that #2 combines greys and browns which is a common look for the trees here in British Columbia, and what I was aiming for.
Unfortunatlely the forest spirits are resting today, aka...I have to go to work. But 1 more Tree Kin to go and the unit is finished!!!
Then on to the Dryads.
I have wanted to get the ball rolling on my Wood Elves for a LONG time now.....I am glad that I finally made some progress.
I am pretty happy with the results......I am thinking that I will continue the color scheme onto the Dryads in order to maintain army cohesiveness. Does anyone find that Dryads should be different from Tree Kin in terms of color or is this fine?
I will be able to add some variety and color to the force when I get to paint the charactors and War Dancers

Re: Song of the Grove-Kin
WOW! This is an amazing army!
I really love how you made your own trre kin! That is awesome! They look sooo cool, really tree like if I may say so
You actually inspired me with the spell weaver! And I had a go at it myself, and it doesn't look too bad to be honest! And the daemonette riders I absolutely love, I actually kept the riders and gave them all spears...
The army is here...
http://www.asrai.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18572
But for quick reference.
Here's my spellsinger, which you did and I loved SOOOO much I had to do one myself! (I hope you don't mind) I Gave her a little band/crown thingy around her head though as I was struggling with the hair line, it's like a water droplet shape, though it will be painted like a gem thingy hopefully
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac78 ... CF3359.jpg
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac78 ... CF3360.jpg
And here are my 'Wild Rider's' which were the daemonettes seekers of slaanesh from 2002! I'm aiming for 20 of them, so that will be2 units of 10 hopefully, but if you read this post http://www.asrai.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18626 you'll see that I did have 20, but had some legal problems with them and am back down to 15 I still want me 20 tho. I am REALLY REALLY looking forward to what you do with you daemonettes though! The post of the picture of your's got me looking into them, and you got me really inspired with converting them! I hope I did an ok job, but I am sooo looking forward to seeing what else you're planning on doing, particularly your treeman!
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac78 ... CF3332.jpg
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac78 ... CF3336.jpg
Here is one painted, though it was unfinished at the time of taking the photo, a lot of detail missing, but she is now finished, so some photo's will be up soon...
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac78 ... CF3758.jpg
I really can't wait to see what else you have in store for us! I love reading this post!

Re: Song of the Grove-Kin
Wow Hannah! That is some great work you have done there.
I do not mind that you used my spell singer idea at all, I am glad that you liked it and were able to make such a nice one or yourself
Your "wild Riders" look great too. Your painting and conversions are really good. It is hard to get a hold of those Daemonettes though isn't it!
I am just finishing up the rest of my Dryads at the moment, then I think that I will work on a Tree Man.... The one in this post died So I will be building a new one from scratch.

Re: Song of the Grove-Kin
Thanks
Ah no! How did it die? What happened to it then?
You'll have to post up some pictures of the dryads as soon as you have them done! I'm looking forward to seeing them, how big were you thinking of doing the treeman then? He is a bit tiny isn't he?!? (The gamesworkshop one) He should be really BIG, gnarled and old looking!!!
Yeah they daemonettes are a pain to get a hold of, especially the cost of them, they seem to go for SOOOO much! But I love them! They're my favourite models so far, even if they are really fiddly and annoying to paint
What do you think you will do to your's then???

Keep up the good work, Skarloc! Having all the Forest spirits in roughly the same colours really helps unifying your army.

Re: Song of the Grove-Kin
Time really does flow differently in our wooded realm!
It seems as though it was only yesterday that I posted some progress, and now I see that it was Mon Aug 23, 2010 1:57 pm
I am still going for a dark, mossy feel to the army.
Here is my completed Dryad unit:
You can see the spites better in this shot
And here is my General:
Sorry the pics are dark, but I don't have much time to take pics
I can take more shots if anyone is interested....
Painting my Wardancers is next!
Comments on these models are welcome as always.

Fantastic Work, I love all your sculpts and conversions.
Re: Song of the Grove-Kin
They are superb conversions - especially the Treekin. There are very few examples of models that look both realistic to their background but also look like intimidating heavy hitting combat troops. Yours definitely look the part. Great work.

Re: Song of the Grove-Kin
It's all from blending.Tachunka wrote:How do you get the dryad eyes so glowing?
I start with Dark Angels green, blend it up to Goblin green, then up to Scorpion green, and finally to skull white.
Always leave a little of the previous colour visible, and it should work for you.
Hope this helps.
