Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog
Your models will have slightly the same color-scheme as mine... Dark greens and copper-colored armor. They will turn out very well when you see the fully assembled army
The reason for my coloring was that I wanted to have some sort of Spring theme but not too 'happy happy joy joy' with bright colors but a bit more dark looking... A reason why you have chosen this palette?

It's playoff time... GO SHARKS!
Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog
Yeh mostly the same reason as you because i like the dark and malicious side of the wood elves but not the winter style. And partly because i had those paints.
Thanks for the comment.
Anymore would be greatly appriciated.

Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog
Scheme is great! Now go get some washes.
Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog
Cheers. I have used washes on him but my camera isn't the best so it strips all the washes i have put on him from the photo.Scheme is great! Now go get some washes.
Anyway, Update Time!
After reading all about the new 8th Edition i decided to get painting my wood elves again. Some of you may remember my noble with shield from one of my other threads: http://asrai.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=15940
I have changed him since then and given him an extra hand weapon and I have started painting him:
And I have finished a glade guard as well: Im going to be painting models for this army list so you can expect whats coming:
Cyndra the Grey (Noble) 111pts
Light Armour
Additional Hand weapon
Hail of Doom Arrow
Wood Elf Spell Singer 150pts
Level 2 Wizard
Dispel Scroll
10 Glade Guard 126pts
Musician
10 Glade Guard 126pts
Musician
11 Dryads 132pts
Total: 645pts
Cheers guys.

Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog
Well I have changed my army again so here is the new list that i will be painting stuff up to match:
Cyndra the Grey (Noble) 119pts
Light Armour
Elven Steed
Hail of Doom Arrow
Wood Elf Spell Singer 150pts
Level 2 Wizard
Dispel Scroll
10 Glade Guard 126pts
Musician
10 Glade Guard 126pts
Musician
5 Glade Riders 129pts
Musician
Total: 650pts
So I played with this list today but sadly i lost as i failed my Ld test when my opponents Shaggoth charged me and all my GR and my Noble got butchered by the Shaggoth and Maruader Horsemen. But there was one high in the battle: one of my GG units got into combat with the Shaggoth and defeated it in three succesive combats! Ariels Blessing that my Spellsinger cast on them helped a lot and my opponents bad rolling. But elves don't always suck in combat!
C&C welcome and needed.
Cheers

Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog
I think that your list is a teensy bit character heavy. After all, they do make up ~40% of your force. And you don't want someone else to dictate when you get into combat. You're playing 7th ed Wood Elves! You're super-duper maneuverable! Don't let them tell you when to fight! But I digress. Anyway, your painting looks solid, (better than mine, of course, which makes about everybody on the internet a better painter than me ) however you may want to work a little more on the picture-taking side of things.
So when you say psychosomatic, you mean like he could start a fire with his thoughts?

Thanks for the reply. Which character do you think i should loose, the Spellsinger? What other things should i change in my army do you think?I think that your list is a teensy bit character heavy. Yeh, my picture taking skills aren't very good so i'll try to get some good pics next time.
I'll post an update when i have finished some more of the glade guard. I have done the base coats of the greens and the flesh. But another question, should i highlight before a wash or afterwards? Also does purity seal make the model shiny at all? does it protect it from chipping or do i need 'ardcoat as well?
Cheers

Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog
You highlight after washing, so that the shading done by the wash remains in the recesses of the model.
As far as spellsinger v. noble, it depends on A. what you want, and B. what your opponent brings. If your opponent brings his own wizard, it might be worthwhile to keep your spellsinger if you can't kill his wizard early on. But if you prefer just Hail of Doom Arrow-ing everything to death, then you will want to stick with the Noble. It's really what you want.

Ok cheers, I going to have a go at highlighting on the test model then. I will keep the noble and probably fit some dryads in the list.

Its update time!
I have done a bit of painting on the glade guard because i started my holidays last friday, im going to post them up after i have finished the washes on them.
But i have done some converting work and made a noble and a spellsinger casting Treesinging or FotF. I have also bought some old edition wardancers from my friend and i am going to buy the other 7 from him on thursday.
Anyway onto the pics:
Noble (he has got a sword on top of the banner pole so its like a halberd/spear)
Spellsinger ( I have used a space marine scout hand for him and its a bit bigger than i would have liked but it will do)
Wardancers
Sorry the pixel size was to big so follow this like to veiw the pic: http://i667.photobucket.com/albums/vv36 ... G_2477.jpg
Can you still buy wardancer musicians from GW because i haven't seen them on the website?
Thanks for looking.

Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog (Update: 15/7/2010)
You can still get the Musician in the Command Group
If you haven't already, you may want to add some texture to that greystuff to make the paintjob easier. Large bits of flat plastic show up quickly even if they're painted.

Ok cheers. Do you mean the blu-tack? it has gone grey in the pic. I was just using it to stick the models together so you guys could get a look at them, because im painting them in separate parts. You can still get the Musician in the Command Group

Now i have done all the painting on the first unit of glade guard and i have done their movement tray as well, i just need to base them now. Sorry for the blurry pics. After i have based them i will have a crack at the kitbashed noble and then strip and paint the wardancers.
C&C welcome and much appreciated. Cheers.

Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog (Update: 16/7/2010)
Another update! In the same day! I must have changed.... (but i suppose its for the best)
Anyway i popped into my local GW and bought a Beastmen Ungors kit. Wen i got my glade riders they came with ten horses, and because i use GR in units of 5 i had enough for 5 more horses. So i decided to take a leaf out of Unicorn's book and made some WR centaurs i think they turned out pretty well. Im thinking of making my other GR like this so i can use the bows from the ungor set but im not sure. Ill leave it up to you guys. What do you think?
Well here are my centaurs (the pics are a quite bad so ill use my dads good camera from now on): Comments and criticisms are very welcome. I have sculpted beards and hair onto the riders and the champion has a leaf on his horses back. Arms will be painted separately.
Cheers.

Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog (Update: 16/7/2010 Wild Riders)
Hi !
I do like your Glade Guards !
Just try to paint their eyes. That would givt them more of a facial impression.
Before you paint the face, paint the eyes white and put a black dot in them.
Then paint the flesh colour around them. Voila !
But that's just my opinion.
Regarding the "Centaurs" ...
Sorry I can't really see a thing on those pics.
Just too blurry. But the Idea is fine with me.

Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog (Update: 16/7/2010 Wild Riders)
Thank you very much Turin.
Ill try what you have suggested but ill invest in a fine detail brush before i do. At the moment im doing everything with a basecoat brush.
Yeh now looking at the pics i can see how terrible they are now.
So i did some new ones, but this time they are just of the champion: I hope these are of viewing quality. So i leave them for your opinions.

Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf Blog (Update: 16/7/2010 Wild Riders)
Well i felt that its high time for another update.
My painting for the past couple of months has been devoted to Lord of the Rings with fantasy not even getting a look in. But with getting island of blood for my birthday i decided a change was in order.
So i have returned to my blog. Here is my painting that i have just started again (the eternal guard are PIP): I have got a WE highborn coming up as well.
Till next time (preferably some time soon).

Re: Cyndra's Wood Elf and Island of Blood Blog Update 25/9/10
I'm stuck with an average camera, but I try and find a box to put mine on for detailed stuff (and the macro focus which helps loads)
What I did find really useful was to set the flash on and then cover it with a layer or two of tissue. It still lets the light through but stops it from producing too much glare, washing out the picture and spreads the light a bit more evenly. The closer you get the more layers you need! But when you get the balance right it helps bring out the colours and details, almost looks professional!
Hope it helps

Your wish is my command my lord. *Bows to his lordship* My new scheme and my old cr*py schemeHope to see more, preferably some Spirits this time.
I chose a very simple scheme for my spirits because i hat painting them but the are good in game terms. The bark "skirt" is painted a different colour but it s hard to see.
And some elves. The wardancer is one of my best friends, sisters, boyfriends models that he gave to me along with some other stuff. Just the skin on the eternal guard has been started.
My highborn's arm is glued and is drying but i should be able to post another couple of shots of him tonight.
Thanks for the tip it really does work. What I did find really useful was to set the flash on and then cover it with a layer or two of tissue.
May fate guide your arrows,

Thanks Jellitin, the conversion was actually quite simple, all I did was cut off his other hand and flip the sword over. Them I cut filed the 'blank' bit off his hand so it looked kind of like a glove.
Thanks for replying.

Well here is a WIP test model for my high elves:
(Using Gildesh's cream and red scheme)
My GG are just about based with only some flock left to add some pics will be up shortly. Would you guys suggest a fully flock movement tray or a partially flocked one? (using GW textured ones)
