[C] WFO Invigilator (Empire) vs. Beithir (Bretonnians) 1k

Post by Beithir Seun »

Here's the thread then.

How's this for a map?

Image

Next question - have you read about how to make army templates?

you might want to colour your units or we will loose track of who is who ;)

Yep, I can see the image now. You might want to consider colouring in your templates, so that we can both tell units apart from the start (this will be especially useful for when the casualties start...)

EDIT: Fikol got there first :smirk:

One final question - I'm stuck between choosing Bretonnians or Wood Elves; which would you prefer to play against?

Image of the army, the teal force and the white force. I'm keeping the colours clean so you can pick out my heroes more easily. Haha. Either is fine. Knights of Bretonnia, but you might have to do rules clarifications. I won't dispute their magic items or abilities, having never read the army book.

OK, here's my list:
Paladin ~ 143pts
- Lance, Barded Warhorse, Virtue of the Joust, Lance of Artois, Mantle of the Damsel Elena

Paladin ~ 149pts
- BSB, Virtue of Duty, Barded Warhorse, Mane of the Purebreed, Cuirass of Fortune

Knights of the Realm (5) ~ 144pts
- Full Command

Knights of the Realm (5) ~ 144pts
- Full Command

Knights Errant (6) ~ 138pts
- Full Command

Knights Errant (6) ~ 138pts
- Full Command

Men-at-Arms (10) ~ 50pts

Field Trebuchet ~ 90pts

Total = 996pts

I'll clarify the virtues and magic items now for you. If there's anything else you want to know (special rules or anything like that) then just ask :)

Virtue of the Joust - character may reroll failed rolls to hit when charging and using a lance (including magical lances)
Virtue of Duty - character adds +1CR to any combat he is part of as long as the General is alive
Lance of Artois - confers +2 Strength on the charge. Confers the Killing Blow rule when charging
Mantle of the Damsel Elena - Poisoned Attacks do not wound automatically, and the rules for Killing Blow have no effect on the character
Mane of the Purebreed - One use only; all Warhorses in the unit add +1 Strength on their first charge
Cuirass of Fortune - Heavy Armour, may be combined with other armour as normal. When rolling to wound, the Character may reroll any rolls of 1

And my templates:

Image

And finally, my roll for table edge/deployment:
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

6 = 6
And reroll if necessary:
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

4 = 4

Before I begin, I should really clarify the terrain on the map

- The two yellow mounds are hills; open terrain, Level 1
- The green fuzzy thing is a wood; difficult terrain, soft cover - Wood Elf terrain. Level 1 (so blocks LoS from the hills)
- The grey circle is a ruin; broken walls or large boulders. Difficult terrain, hard cover. Level 1
- The collection of rocks and shrubs is a rocky ridge; difficult terrain. Level 2

My first unit; the Trebuchet

Knights

Peasants come in groups of 4 i see. Does the mortar deal S10 hits? Does it use a large template? Does it deal D6 wounds even when the model it hits is not directly under the hole?

20 Spearmen full command
10 Crossbows
7 Free Company

Does your trebuchet do large 5" template, and does it hit at S5 with D6 wounds for the model under the template?

The Trebuchet is exactly the same as a normal stone thrower, with the exceptions that it's range is 12"-60", it's Strength is 5 normally and 10 for model(s) under the hole, and it can't move during the game. It uses the small 3" template and does d6 wounds just like any other stone thrower.

First unit of KotR

Also realised my templates were the wrong size, so I've now adjusted them.

I assume your knights will probably start the game by praying after seeing this. :P

It's 1.30 am here. I'll place down my characters, and you may say your prayers. I'll get the next turn on my tomorrow.

Sword of Fate has wound on 2+ no armor saves allowed, D3 wounds on your Battle Standard Bearer.

Here's the rest of my army. I will indeed be praying, so you can start your turn whenever you're ready

Turn 1 done:

I have placed it so that the cannon has line of sight to your bsb, placed the pegasus out of charge range, but still to threaten your trebuchet. Is that possible? Or was it your intention to keep your units out of sight? Either way I will let.

Magic: Wizard attempts to cast burning gaze with 3d6 on general's unit.
Result of the throw of dice "3d6" :

1 + 4 + 6 = 11
Assuming success,

D6 S4 hits:
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

1 = 1
To wound:
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

2 = 2
No wounds for magic, waiting for shooting!

Your moves are fine. Being as you didn't cause any damage with Burning Gaze, there's no need for me to dispel it. Shoot away.

Guess range weapons. Great cannon drawing sight to your BSB, attempts to spit out a cannonball with 36" range.

Artillery Dice (twice)
Result of the throw of dice "2d6" :

1 + 3 = 4
Lands at range 38", bounce to range 44". A good shot! Now how do you measure ranges on this WFO?
Rolling to wound, 1st model then second:
Result of the throw of dice "2d6" :

2 + 2 = 4
Assuming hits on BSB and second rank, you'll need to take a look out sir and 2 ward saves

Further shooting: 10 crossbows on the same unit:
Long Range, hit on 5+
Result of the throw of dice "10d6" :

3 + 5 + 5 + 3 + 1 + 1 + 6 + 5 + 2 + 5 = 36
To wound, on 3+
Result of the throw of dice "5d6" :
5 + 6 + 5 + 5 + 4 = 25
5 wounds! Serious shooting!

5 saves with -1 armour modifier and possible panic check.

Shooting over, turn over!

Look Out Sir for the BSB:
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

2 = 2
Just passes

5+ Ward saves:
Result of the throw of dice "2d6" :

3 + 6 = 9
1 dead Knight from the cannonball

Armour saves against the Crossbows:
Result of the throw of dice "5d6" :

3 + 2 + 1 + 6 + 4 = 16
3 saved

6+ Wards:
Result of the throw of dice "2d6" :

2 + 6 = 8
1 more dead Knight

Panic test:
Result of the throw of dice "2d6" :

1 + 2 = 3
They pass

As for measuring ranges, I would recommend you download GIMP (free from http://www.gimp.org/) or a similar program like Photoshop. They should have measuring tools which you can use.

It's your turn. Dang they really should put the 'How to measure range' in the 'how to fight WFO'. I was completely at a loss when it came to the diagonal shooting phase. Nearly used pythagoras theorem to see if I hit.
