Scratchbuilt/skulpted forrest spirits [08.07.2009]
Hello Asrai.
I have started collecting wood elves couple of years ago but haven't got much done yet. But now I am trying to finish my army. So I decided to join your board to get some inspiration and maybe share something to you. And now I have been working on scratchin forrest spirits to my army. I really don't like treekin or treeman models. They are small and pretty ugly and most of all they are expensive too. So I decided to save lot of money and make them myself. Here is first treekin I made and my W.I.P. treeman.
C&C are more than welcome. =)

Awww! I think they're cute
I like them both a lot; a very different take on both units. They have a sort of old-school, Jim Henson feel to them I think.

Just curious, why does the treekin have a purple beak? Aside from that, I really like the models, good work.
Signatures? What is this madness?!

Welcome. Nice models.
Why don't you go over to the Glade of Gathering and fill out the Interrogation Form and introduce yourself properly.
And why shouldn't a treekin's beak be purple?

Re: Scratchbuilt forrest spirits
Treekin are dead trees reanimated by forest spirits; maybe one of those spirits opted to manifest itself with a large purple beak to pluck out the eyes of invaders and despoilers.
It's what I might do, were I a forest spirit. That or pilfer from AMA until he concedes in our battle in the tourney

Thank you for positive feedback. It is nice to hear you like them.
Yes I just made introducing post. Go and read it out if you like.
Hehe, good question.. Purple is theme colour of my army so thats why it is purple. but beak itself.. Well I am not master sculptor but I hope you can live with it. :Pyeps wrote:Just curious, why does the treekin have a purple beak? Aside from that, I really like the models, good work.

A better question would be why he has a beak at all .yeps wrote:Just curious, why does the treekin have a purple beak? Aside from that, I really like the models, good work.
Re: Scratchbuilt forrest spirits
Well I tought it is sort of manifestation of some birds spirit or something. :P So that the spirit has taken over the three. Why do you ask such a questions? :P You should be asking: Why does that three has legs? Or why does that three has arms? How three can move? Or even march and hack the crap out of everyone? Those things seem to be fine to you but if it has bead, it is the weirdest thing in the world. :PCraig wrote:A better question would be why he has a beak at all .yeps wrote:Just curious, why does the treekin have a purple beak? Re: Scratchbuilt forrest spirits
Well, Mr. X, I think it's original and enjoyable. Do you have more treekin to go along with it?

Yes actually I do have. I was just about to post a picture of a second invidual. I have total of four of them. And now I am currently working on a third. But here is second one. I am not so satisfied with the painting with this as with the first but it'll do. Still need to paint two more.

Fourth is almost finished, altough painting looks like sheit.. =/ But I won't be painting it again. Got so much to do anyway. It will do in regiment. :P
Re: Scratchbuilt forrest spirits [24.06.2009]
Ok here is the fourth one. Got it finally done. It turned out to be better than I expected but I still don't like it that much.
And here is group shot of all of four together.
Now it is time to paint threeman.

I like them! Very imposing unit; they must look great on the field. Definitely fit the strength 5 toughness 5 stat line, too.

Re: Scratchbuilt forrest spirits [24.06.2009]
Certainly do like vengeful spirits of the forest to me. I think the one with the beak is my favorite, but then again he has an owl perched on him, and everyone knows owls make everything better. I'd say that for scratch-built models, they look exceptional, especially as a group. The only thing I might say could be worked on is the third one's head, which seems little out of place on the model. I think with some quick blending around the edges you could fix that.

Re: Scratchbuilt forrest spirits [06.07.2009]
again, i've noticed, the treeman eithert:
A. has a large nose, or
B. has a beak
if the second is true, then you might have a fettish for the beaked trees my friend.

Re: Scratchbuilt forrest spirits [06.07.2009]
A. is correct answer. And whats bad with trees with beaks? Even it would be beak(which it isn't) it would be just 2 out of 5 anyway. Can you call it fettish? I don't think so. Oh yes theres a two birds in back of treeman and they both have beaks, oh noes! 1 beaked treeking + 2 owls with beaks + one bird with beak = that makes 4 beaks in five models.hawkeyed wrote:again, i've noticed, the treeman eithert:

And how about? When you look at first and second treekin and their claws closely, they look exactly like looong beaks. First kin so has 5 beaks, second one 6 beaks and then 2 for owl and 1 for bird.. So that makes grand total of 14 beaks! Godamn I think I must have fettish.. Anyone can spot more beaks?
But at least I am not alone.. Having dragon avatar, dragon and a egg of a dragon and "My dragon needs friends" in as signature must be some fettish for sure..
