Painting diary UPDATED NOV 9

Post by Highborn Sycath »

well i wasnt painting my woodelves fast enough, so id thought id make a diary to motivate myself. basically ill place updates of the units im painting and how far i am ...

first off

highborn

right now

based white and inked black. the armour is higlighted with hawk turqoise, and then hawk turqoise mixed with white. first 75/25 hawk turqoise/white, then 50/50 , then 25/75, and finnally 10/90. then it gets a watered down black wash.

before i undercoat I always glue the sand to the base - saves a lot of headaches further down the line

Just a question is that the base metal showing throw or the white undercoat on the tips of the cloak? If its metal I would suggest respraying

Do you always paint the characters first? I always leave them till last when im comfortable with the paint scheme of the army rather than when im still experimenting with colours etc. Its also best to get all the boring stuff (core units) painted first - many a time ive painted all the more interesting units and characters first only to never get to the core units.....

Look forward to seeing the finished highborn!

nice, I put the sand on after and I paint characters last but I'm not mad about characters they are a part of the army, though with the WE the models are better so I'll *try* to paint them better !

the hair has a base of bubonic brown.

Well, both models look pretty good. But you could work on the Highborn's Hair.

The Blue Dryad is crazy.. ^_^

yeah i like the blue too. i think the reason it looks so good is because you dont really see a blue tree walking around

im gonna fix up the highborns hair, but right now im focusing on my dryads( cant find my bleached bbone so i cant finish the highborn :( )

anyway thanks for the comments!

I really really like your Dryads. It'll be pretty cool if you took a pic of all of your ranked up Dryads once your done a unit or so.

And an actual Branchwraith would go well with the painting skills!

i like the unusual colour scheme however I dont think the blue bark on the first one goes too well with the green.

Will each unit of dryads be one colour (blue green etc?)

i was going for that each dryad in the unit would have two of the main colours ( so some would be blue and green, som would be blue and bone, and the others would be grenn and bone) so that each one would look different but when theres a unit shot the unit would look cohesive... im not sure how itll look though...

i agree about the blue going to well with the green, but as the whole units not going to be like that, i hope itll look fine in a unit shot

Thanks!

well i got over to games workshop finally, and picked up some water effects( the woodland scenics one, not the twice as much gw ones) and bleached bone, so now i can finish my nhighborn. heres and update on what ive done so far

i redid the blue armour ( for some reason it looked odd out side.... and didnt look blue...) did the bleached bone, and started working on the spite and the wood. i tried to make it look as if the wood trned into the spite, so i did some blending ( note. this was my first time blending and dint have any paint flower stuff, so its not the greatest, but i think it looks good)

http://photobucket.com/albums/y272/war_ ... ghborn.jpg

still to finish- some parts of the skin
some of the bone
the bow and quiver
the great weapon
his base( including water effects and spite and wood)

almost done

It's looking good so far. The Armour is Superb
suggestion?
It could use some work on the bark, definetly on the hair and the skin. The cloak is still looking.. awkward aswell. And you should make the Pixie a different colour other than blue.

*hands out turkey*

im pretty much done except for the blade.

for the base i put a couple of layers of sand on the back of the base.. to make it look raised,, and then used water effects to make a little river and water fall going to the front of the base. i blended the all of the tree trunk to make it look like it was turning into the spite, and i highlighted the part that was still brown upto brown mixed with bleached bone.

You know, I actually believed that you started painting Zombies! :p Or did you? <_<

Good work with the BSB, especially with the lines and twirls!
