NavButtons

Post by Naggie »

Don't mind the nav buttons. It is just me trying to fiddle with an idea I have. If the site goes down, hit refresh after a minute and things will be alright.

-----

Apart from the colours, it seems to work (not the new chat though, will fix that soon). Feel free to tell me what you think.

-----

Now the new chat link works.

-----

The skins are done, but it seems to not work in Internet Explorer.
I suggest everyone to get Mozilla Firefox as son as possible, but I will work on this little issue.

-----

Fixed the Internet Explorer bug. (I had made a little typo when writing a filepath, nothing bigger than that). However, now the correct pop-up comes every time you do anything with IE.

Get firefox! http://www.mozilla.com

Should I scrap the menu? It would cost me $139 to get rid of that pop-up...

Where's the PM link? Edit: Ah, nevermind. I like the dropdown menus. Very cool.
Mal: Do you want to run this ship?
Jayne: Yes
Mal: Well... you... can't.

It's much easier to navigate now, at least for me.

If you notice any bug, please report them :)
I don't know what to do about the constant pop-up for IE users though... I don't really feel like spending $139 to get rid of it, nor do I feel like getting rid of this menu (I can revert back to our 12-button menu, but I didn't like it that much).

I will search for a free menu that can be made similar to this, but not now. I have spent about 8-9 hours getting this to work at the clock is soon 5 in the morning here. Time to get some rest and sleep.
Keep the comments coming so I get some kind of idea on how this new menu is taken by the community.

I have made a temporary solution for those who don't like the new menu. A new skin! Basically, it is the old skin without the menu. Just find your profile and go to preferences and change skin from "Shadow Forest" to "Shadow Skin Old" to get the older NavButtons.

Now I can sleep, assured I won't wake up to three dozens of angry PMs...

Yes, it is an excruciating pain to have to repeatedly delete useless pop-ups each time a page loads. I'm just glad that there's alternative.

At first I thought a virus had infected my computer.

Problem with selecting the old "button" skin - if you're not logged in at the time, then the drop-downs are the default.

Other than that, Nag knows my perspective on the new thing.

Hmm... Eldacar has a point there. Maybe you should make the old skin the default skin, though that would probably defeat its purpose.

As this NavMenu is still a testing one, I have no problem with it being the alternative skin. I have now changed the default to the old button skin.

They are working especially well. I was always thinking of mentioning such a button set up that makes it so much easier to bounce around on this website.

You should get rid of the arrow on the Portal button since there is no scroll down bar thingy.....

Thanks.

I tried, but the code for the "button" background is about a page long. I'll read it through more careful when I got time.

A new little update:
I've gotten loads of PMs and e-mails about the pop-ups the last day. To that, I have two things to say.

1. Get Firefox as it is much better than Internet Explorer. Your computer will thank you as it keeps 80% of the most common viruses away. http://www.mozilla.com

2. I have changed around a little with the skins now. Basically the Skin that was for IE users yesterday has now become the flashy menu skin instead, and the flashy menu skin has become the old menu skin. This is because 95% of the people who use this Shadow Forest Skin are still set on the first version of it, and they don't read these announcements. Thusly, now people who have not changed anything in their profile will not see any difference to the site compared with a week ago. To see the new flashy menus (with the annoying Internet Explorer pop-up) they have to change their skin setting in their profile.

The Light Glade skin is Kul's responsibility :)
I can do it, but he'd probably disagree :)

Yeah. One can never be 100% secured from them, but I can assure you that we are stopping far more now than we were before. Unfortunately, we seem to stop the silent ones :) Also, as the site grows, it will attract more bots.
