Signature Images UPDATE

Post by Naggie »

A change in the rules have been enforced!

After some people had contacted me about Signature Images, and a vote was held among the admins and mods, these are the new Sig Image Rules:

The maximum file size an image in the signature can be is 15 kB. The exception to this is moving or changing images, which cannot be taken at all.

The images of avatars will remain 100x100px and 8kB maximum.

Does this apply to moving avatars as well, or just moving signature images? It seems to be a bit unclear at the moment.

We'll keep it to Signature Images as of now Your avatar is still legal, Eldy. No worries. Thanks for clearing that out.

It's okay with the signature. I hate those huge banners a lot...

One thing though:

Please don't disallow moving avatars! I really  em'! I have read that they'll be ok for now, but please don't do it in the future either.

Well sounds like a good idea.. but it's not like everyone has a banner sig and everyone has a :yabbo: Dial-up Connection.

Isn't dial up close to the same price of cable or DSL? If so then I see no point in keeping it, looking back on my dial-up days 6 years past I would never go back and maybe topics like these would be pointless.

Some areas of the world (mine included) have not been able to get Broadband connectons because the lines needed an upgrade. I recently got a highter speed connection because the lines were fitted to be able to support it. So some areas, especially regional, cant have a faster connecton just now, regardless of the cost.

Does it matter why people have dial-up? We show consideration for them anyway, or at least we should do. I never have sig images, even though it would severely up my KoL store sales.

Sig images can also get very huge and irritating in the eye when scrolling through a topic. With this limit, we keep that down a bit too. On some sites (you know who you are ;)) the sig images makes the sig many times bigger than the actual post. Here on Asrai.org we will try to keep the importance in the threads and not in the sigs or ranks or avataras or such stuff.

But can you not go into 'options' and turn off Signatures?

Foxtale, check your profile and try it now. You can't. ;)

Invision boards have that option, yes, but the "standard" phpBB ones don't.

Maybe we should go and find us a good mod to get that option...

Admins can disable sigs for *everyone*, in phpBB. Same with avatar images.
Users can't pick and choose to see / not see them though - save for putting a list of image links in their HOSTS file, or blocking images from * in firefox.

edit: what I also meant to say, was that while it must be possible to code in an option for individual users, I don't know how. There might be an add on availible on the phpbb site, but it'd be understandable if the admins didn't have the time / inclination to hunt down something that might not exist, let alone install it (which is never as easy as it sounds, I'm finding).

Curses! Alas for mods though, to make forum admining so much the easier. (Bad grammar intentional)

Oh well, as long as we can keep advertising. :D
