Writing Contest!

Postby Naggie » 07 Jan 2013, 15:30

As I said yesterday, the portal page is up and running. However, I feel the welcome message needs an update. At the moment, it just says "Welcome to my Community!". Back in the day, when the portal last was operational, the welcome message said:
The Welcome Message wrote:Welcome, child. I see that the Paths have guided you to this fair place. We of the Asrai are skilled in all arts; the art of war, the art of narration, the art of depiction and most importantly of all, the art of fellowship. Our cunning and stealth are unmatched in the Old World, and our wisdom all the more so. Athel Loren is our charge, just as we are its children; our combined struggle a battle of survival against a harsh world of cold machinery, callous debauchery and mindless bloodshed. Perhaps when the world is young again; when evil has departed; when the worldly troubles that hang on our doorstep are gone; perhaps then, we shall know peace. Until then, child, our duty is vigilance, and you would best remember that.”

So without further ado, welcome to Asrai.Org!

Now I am announcing a new writing competition. I want you people to write something welcoming for all users. Write something and send it to my PM inbox. I will need all written messages in my inbox on Sunday the 13th of January the latest.

The winner will get something special, as well as have his text shown on the portal.

Are you going to post up all the entries? Because it is something that would be cool to have the forum vote on.

I'm not sure. It depends a bit on how many entries I get and the quality of those entries. It's a decent idea though. Thanks.

As the site has experienced troubles outside my ability to control, I am going to extend the deadline until Tuesday midnight. I.e. the 15th of January.

And the winner is: Kojibear!

He wrote this as his submission
Kojibear wrote:Wait! Asrai, stay your arrows! This one’s life hangs like a dewdrop on a petal, but we may have found a flower amid the weeds.

So, outsider, think you skilled? Lucky perhaps? Know this, none step a foot into the realm of Athel Loren unless the Forest itself permits it. These woods are more than our home. The trees and earth are our heart, the rivers and streams our blood. We are the children of Isha and Kurnous. The beauty of life is our gift and the purity of the hunt is our right. There is no other truth. All who would threaten the balance, who would infect the Forest with the rot of avarice and evil, must die.

Well, outsider, the Asrai do not break our oaths like our vile, dark cousins. Nor do we shirk from our duty like our conceited brethren in Ulthuan. But you are not like the others. The forest's embrace does not choke you. Your heart swells with awe and joy as the branches and leaves tickle you in welcome. Your heart races as you chase the hare and stag that elude you. Your heart soars as the butterflies and birds dive to greet you. Your heart sings as the wind and rivers lend you their sweet percussion. And your heart burns for vengeance when all this is threatened by the ignorant, the wasteful and the wicked.

Come then, welcomed one, the path before you lies open. Best hurry lest it be closed to you forever.

As a reward for his great effort, he will receive a title as well as a special rank image. Congratulations!
