BSB
Can the BSB refuse a challenge and slink off cowardly to the back of the unit???? I say yes he can.......... however, From the back of the unit does/should it add +1 to combat Res???? I can see no reason though that it's magical ability would still work....... although that seems somewhat broken from a fluff POV.

Re: BSB
Just remember that the opponent gets to choose which lord/hero figure gets taken back to the rear. I don't see why the banner wouldn't still work. The troops might not think much of the cowardly weenie carrying it but it's magic still works.
On the other hand, elves are a practical lot and our warriors are wise in the ways of warfare. If faced with some OP chaotic, undead deathlord-of-battle they might be just fine with their army banner being removed to safety. (my story and I'm sticking to it )

So it's no longer the BRB, now it's the DERB. (Digital Edition Rule Book) I am all in for 9th Age.
Re: BSB
From the FAQ:
Add “If a Battle Standard Bearer is in a unit that Refuses a
Challenge and is subsequently moved to the rear of its unit,
it loses the Hold Your Ground rule until the end of the turn.
Note, however, that if the Battle Standard Bearer has a magic
standard its effects continue to apply as normal (it cannot be
‘switched on or off’)”
So there's that =)
