Spell thieving sword or Miscast 10 - 12

Post by ~ Wardancer ~ »

What happens to a unit of Doomfire Warlocks if they get effected by either event???? Does the unit lose a spell or is it irrelevant?

Pretty sure with miscast they take d3 wounds which they get their ward save against. Spellthieving sword is an interesting question. The unit is treated as a level 2 wizard but I don't know if they would lose a spell.

We ran across the issue last night, And yes it was a spirited discussion. In the end I just said forget it and let them keep their spells. However, going forward I don't agree with that interpretation of the ruling. They're a coven not individual wizards. Power drain would reduce their level so why wouldn't the ST sword have the same effect?

Power drain they dont lose their level, like our Sisters of the Thorn they take d3 wounds instead of rolling on the miscast table. Unlike our sisters they get their ward save
against those wounds.

As each unsaved wound actually kills the model in question, I don't think it does anything. If you have 10 Sisters then you have 10 models that know Curse and Shield, when you cause a wound on any particular model, yes it would lose a level of magic (losing a spell) but that is only after it takes a wound and dies leaving it a moot point.

Thats how I interpret the conflict.

I think you've got this wrong, the owner gets to choose which model is the wizard any time anything might need one. If you attack with the sword have him indicate which one counts as the wizard. If you kill that model then the sword would proc and steal a spell from the whole unit. (S)He (there are some women that play, right?) would then have to chose another wizard.

So the rule for warlocks is as follows,

"Each time the unit casts a spell you must nominate one Master of Warlocks or Doomfire Warlock as the caster for the purposes of line of sight, range, etc."
"If the unit is targeted by a rule that affects a wizard, your opponent must choose one Master of Warlocks or Doomfire Warlock as target".

It looks like you get to pick the wizard for the sword.
:sexy:
But good luck convincing your opponent on that.

And that is the issue at hand. Kill 1 and the others are still around and know the spell, they aren't affected. I put forth the idea that they act as a coven all know it and therefore all can forget it. Like a hive mind!!

I'm away from my rule books so I'm paraphraseing here, a unit of warlocks is "a lvl2 wizard" the sword effects "a wizard" same useage so same effect? But clearly he'll argue that until you're both out of breath.
