GladeRiders only get Armour Piercing on the turn they charge
So during a game, the guy I was playing against claimed i'd lose my armour piercing on my glade riders after the first turn of combat. I was confused, as the weapon clearly listed them as being armour piercing.
Then I read the rulebook and it states that a mounted model with a spear, may only use it's spear on the turn it charges. In subsequent turns or if it did not charge, it uses it's hand weapon instead.
Lo' and behold, the glade riders are also armed with hand weapons, so I lost my armour piercing.
I had no idea this was the case, I feel kinda dumb for not knowing the BRB spear rules.

Except that Wood Elves don't use BRB Spears. They use Asrai Spears, which are a completely new weapon entry. Unlike the spear rules in the BRB, the Asrai Spear does not state that it can only be used when charging. Only the +1 Strength bonus is lost when not charging.

Also, I believe that they allow us to fight in additional ranks even in turns that we charge. I haven't pressed this point yet, but that is how I am reading it.

How do you figure? Our spears have the "Fight in Extra Ranks" special rule. Read it. Pg69.FriedTaterExplosion wrote:Also, I believe that they allow us to fight in additional ranks even in turns that we charge. I haven't pressed this point yet, but that is how I am reading it.

Really? Hmm. I'll have to press the issue during our next game, the lack of armour piercing kept me tied up longer than i'd hoped, so it's nice to know it does apply regardless of how long i've been in combat.Beithir Seun wrote:Except that Wood Elves don't use BRB Spears. Heh heh. I guess it would help if I read that rule first. If the rule "Fight in Extra Ranks" says, "in turns that they don't charge" than I'm 100% incorrect.Domine Nox wrote:How do you figure? Still, I do agree that "Asrai Spears" trumps the regular spears rule. +1 strength for cav when charging, but armor piercing all the time.

It is true, does that mean that for example darkshades dont have slow to fire, even though they have bolthtrowers (repeaters)? Same ruling.
I am asking a lot of DE questions on the forum lately cause in my group a DE dominates. I am looking for the edge

Repeater crossbows have their own profile in the DE book, they do not have the "move or fire" rule, so they can fire on the move as easily as a bow.bjoernuhlig wrote:Beithir Seun wrote:Except that Wood Elves don't use BRB Spears. Repeater handbows are quick to fire, so they don't have the -1 to hit for moving either.

I don't find DEs to be that intimidating. If you want to get and edge try and get an idea of their list and we'll see if we can find a chink in their list.

No glade riders have asrai spears and nothing about them says first round only. Spears only apply on the turn you charge, asrai spears say you only get the str. Bonus when mounted on the turn you charge. And glade ridr 3rd dont have a hand weapon.

If your opponent says that you are looking for advantage, then you can point out that the sisters of thorn have javalins which are not quick to fire like every other javalin in the game...

It does say that Glade Riders & Wild Riders do both have hand weapons.
I have used them both as if they are always using the spear, getting the Strength bonus on the charge, but always having armour piercing. I'm assuming it's the same for the Wild Riders.
...I hope it is
