Strider Rule and Foests

Post by dg1 »

A friend and I were discussing the use of the free forests and which type to choose with the Acorn. We the noted that the strider special rule on page 76 says, "Warriors with the Strider rule do not have to take Dangerous Terrain tests." The text is pretty clear the not taking dangerous terrain tests applies to only the type of terrain listed in front of the word Strider. By contrast, the Venom Thicket rule (page 119) says, "However, any model moving through a Venom Thicket must take a Dangerous Terrain test, to represent their attempt to fend off the venomous critters within." Is this a conflict between two rules or does the forest strider rule override the Venom Thicket rule? Given intent and fluff, it would make the most sense to say that the forest strider rule plus discussion in the army book trumps. This is of course a significant issue in that giving poison attacks to S3 elves with ASF and AP is obviously a huge boost, especially if the opponent must take dangerous terrain tests to charge your units in forests while your units can ignore such tests. Given the size of the GW woods I have plopping down 2 or 3 Venom Thickets is obviously a huge potential advantage. We noted some discussion but not the strider rule interaction with a Venom Thicket.

There is no conflict. Venom thicket forces dangerous terrain tests. Forest strider ignores dangerous terrain tests when in a forest. A venom thicket is a forest.

Being cavelry and moving through a forest forces dangerous terrain tests, do you see that as conflicting with the forest strider rule?

Thanks, agree but some people do rules lawyer. The way you explain it makes sense logically. Much appreciated. Also meant Citadel, not Cordial, wood in prior post.

Firstly, this is the wrong forum for Rules questions. They should be posted in the Pool of Enlightenment.

Secondly, this question has already been asked and answered several times in the correct forum.

Please take the time to search for an answer before posting topics. Odds are, you won't be the first person to ask.
