[8th] Wood Elves vs Dwarfs - 1200pts

Hello all!

Yes, it's time for another battle report. Our goal was to film this one but we ran into some technical issues. Hopefully, the next one will be good to go!

So after cutting some wood from Athen Loren's forest to make some handgun butts, the forest spirits with the help of some Wood Elves marched onto the Dwarven lands.

3x3 Table

Note:
We played a similar game a few weeks ago (Battle Report HERE). Dwarfs changed their army list for two reasons: 1) Dwarf player liked the list played he played against a VC opponent earlier that week and 2) Figured he should try to field a different army than last time, even though the last list worked nicely.

Movement:
IB, LBs and Thunderers all move up 3''

Magic:
LOL!

Shooting:
Thunderers were out of range from the get-go, so they moved up. No shooting from them.
OG targets Treeman, in long range, through soft cover but inflicts 1 wound (doubles to 2 due to Rof Burning + Flammable)

Combat:
None

Resolution:
None

Recap:
​So Thunderers were out of range, but Organ gun got 2 wounds on treeman. Not too bad.


WOOD ELVES

Charges:
None

Movement:
All units, except for Glade guard march up 10''.

Magic:
Regrowth goes off and heals treeman back up.

Shooting:
Glade guard target Organ gun and kill 2 crewmen.

Combat:
None

Resolution:
None

Recap:
Treeman healed up + 2 wounds on Organ gun? A good turn I'd say!


TURN 2
DWARFS

Charges:
None

Movement:
None.

Magic:
LOL!

Shooting:
Thunderers shoot @ Treekin and produce 3 wounds, 1 treekin is dead.
OG goes after treeman and doesn't do anything.

Combat:
None

Resolution:
None

Recap:
1 Treekin down, but I might be able to bring it back with a good magic phase.

All else seems fine for now!


WOOD ELVES

Charges:
None

Movement:
All units get right outside short range from Thunderers or OG. That is, Treeman is 12'' from ironbreakers, but 15.5'' from organ gun and dryads and treekin are over 13 from thunderers & 15 from organ gun. Charges to come next round for sure.

Magic:
Awakening goes off and takes 1 ironbreaker.
Regrowth goes off and Treekin comes back to life. Wood Elves at full health again.

Shooting:
Glade guard target OG but can't produce wounds.
Strangleroots do nothing as well on ironbreakers.

Combat:
None

Resolution:
None

Recap:
We're at full strength here and getting ready for the charge. The dwarfs with their guns haven't done much. Hey, this is going fine!


TURN 3
DWARFS


Charges:
None

Movement:
None.

Magic:
LOL!

Shooting:
Thunderers shoot at Treeman and cannot produce a wound.
OG shoots at Treeman and nothing either.

Combat:
None

Resolution:
None

Recap:
Yes! I escape the guns within issues!


WOOD ELVES

Charges:
All charges are declared.
Treeman on Ironbreakers and makes it.
Dryads on thunderers but fail
Treekin on thunderers but fail-

Treekin take 2 wounds from stand and shoot.

Movement:
Treeman ancient moves to flank ironbreakers next round.

Magic:
Shield of thorns goes off on Treeman. 2 Ironbreakers go down.
Rest is dispelled.

Shooting:
Glade guard target OG and kill it. Good bye OG :(

Combat:
Ironbreakers hit Treeman with 1 wound.
Treeman kills 1 ironbreaker.

Resolution:
Treeman had a charge and 1 wound, Ironbreakers had a rank, banner and wound, so they win, but treeman stays put.

Recap:
Not the charge damage I was after and thunder stomps didn't do much.

TURN 4
DWARFS

Charges:
Longbeards charge Dryads


Movement:
Master Engineer moves in to charge next round.

Magic:
LOL!

Shooting:
Thunderers produce 1 wound on treekin.

Combat:
Ironbreakers produce 1 wound on Treeman
Treeman produces 2 wounds in return.

Longbeards go to town and kill 4 dryads.
Dryads kill 1 longbeard.


Resolution:
Nobody runs. Good LD rolls or ties result in everything staying as is.

Recap:
Battle could still go either way here. Can my dryads hold a bit longer?


WOOD ELVES

Charges:
Treekin charge Thunderers. Stand and shoot produces 0 wounds.
Treeman Ancient charges ironbreakers flank.

Movement:
None.

Magic:
Shield of thorns goes off.
Regrowth gets dispelled.

Shield of thorns kills some, don't remember exactly how many ironbreakers.

Shooting:
Glade Guard go for master engineer but can't crack his armor.

Combat:
Ironbreakers produce 1 wound.
Treeman produced 2 wounds
Treeman Ancient does nothing.

Thunderstomps from both wreck face. Kill I don't remember how many.

Longbeards kill another 2 dryads
Dryads do nothing in return.

treekin kill a few thunderers
Thunderers do nothing in return.

Resolution:
Ironbreakers stick, but are left with very few in #. like 3-4

Recap:
​Ironbreakers are going down. Dryads are holding! Victory within reach!

TURN 5
DWARFS

Charges:
Master Engineer Charges Treeman.


Movement:
None

Magic:
LOL!

Shooting:
None.

Combat:
Ironbreakers and Master Engineer go at the Treeman and produce 1 wound.
Treeman kills Master Engineer
Thunder stomps take care of remaining Ironbreakers.

Longboards kill a few Dryads
Dryads kill 1 longboard in return.

Thunderers deal no damage.
Thane deals no damage.

Tree kin kill a 2 more thunderers.


Resolution:
Dryads lose combat and run away! Longboards reform to face Treekin.
Thunderers stick but are reduced in numbers.
Freeman Ancient and Treeman reform to charge Thunderers flank next round.

Recap:
Finally! Iron breakers go down and thunderers are reduced to very few. Dryads ran, but Wood Elves are in good shape!

WOOD ELVES

Charges:
Treeman charges Thunderers and makes it in.

Movement:
Treeman Ancient moves up a bit.

Magic:
Shield of thorns goes off on Treekin
Regrowth is dispelled.

Sheila of thorns kills some Thunderers.

Shooting:
Glade Guard shoot at longbeards and produce 1 additional wound.

Combat:
In essence here, Thunderers kill 1 treekin but between treekin, freeman and stomps, the thunderers are reduced to 5 or so + thane.


Resolution:
Thunderers stay fighting though!

Recap:
Even with a chance to maybe do something, time was running short and we agree that it would be tough for the LBs to take on the treeman, 2 remaining treekin, freeman ancient and glade guard almost by themselves, so we call it.

And it was a WOOD ELF VICTORY!

POST MATCH:
Well, as I mentioned in the opening, Dwarfs tried bringing a different army from the one that beat the Wood Elves last time.

The addition of glade guard to our army finally gave us a ranged weapon to get rid of the artillery (our forest spirit-only army didn't quite crack it). Treeman with thunder stomps performed well whole Dryads and Treekin did average.

A good win and we're adding some more units for the next battle, taking place this weekend!
