Seeking the wisdom of the elders, to fight WoC

Post by Talarian »

Hello Asrai,

Been some time since I've posted last/played a game of warhammer. Thus, I am a bit rusty.
Yesterday however I played a game against my good friend and most played against opponent, WoC.

We played a 1,500 pt game. He brought:

A daemon prince equipped up the wazoo. (2+, 3++, regen on a 3+ if he wounds or something ridiculous)
2x15 WoC mark of nurgle
Chariot
And 4x skullcrushers.
5 hounds

Well then.
How in the world can I kill this army?

Having not played in a while I brought a fun to play, get used to the game type of list.
Brought something like
Lvl 4 high magic
GC on great eagle
16 gg
2x5 dws
2x5 wd
5x wr
5x sott
5x ww

The game started off well for me, with me plucking 3 wounds from his DP, clearing chaff, plucking of wounds from jut about everything. But then, once he finally caught up to me, DP full health and my units getting wiped left and right.

Granted, I may not have played to th best of my ability, and my positioning was probably poor. However, what is everyone's solution to a 3+ High toughness army?

My thoughts, WW are golden, more of these next time for sure, still thinking what type of magic, maybe metal as he despises using marauders.

Fellow asrai, if you find the time I ask for your aid.

(I will also scan the forums as well, just on my phone ATM and haven't been on here for a whole)

Cheers.

Better look around the forum, there are more threads going on right now about how to deal with chaos :)

Indeed! I've been looking around in the meantime and noticed a few good posts. I'm also not familar with the new end times what not, rules. 50% lord allocation, something he used to his advantage, can easily swing the course of the battle. The more I'm reading the more I am remembering and realize how I can update my list!

Thanks for the quick reply mate.

A Daemon Prince can't improve his Ward save past 5+.

That's what I thought at first because Mark of Tzeentch gives +1 to the Ward.

But Daemons do not have Marks of Chaos. This DP has the Special Rule 'Daemon of Tzeentch' instead.

Hagbane everywhere! Target the chariot, the hounds and the demonprince
Take lore of metal or lore of light. Banishment with re-rolling wardsaves is pretty awesome. Wardancers arent really that good maybe drop them for more glade guard.

Thank you for the replies gentleman.

Well then, I'll have to double check is ward save then. Mayhaps it was 5++ and I was too astounded by his wounding regen that it didn't seem like I did anything, we'll see.
Thank you blackcat, I did indeed look at metal and light and they look pretty appealing. I see a lot of "light council" lists around the forums... Presumably it's pretty effective.
I always liked the concept of beast and life though.. Hmm. Especially with a new 50% cap I can think of a few fun lists.

Yes, I suppose the WD are not my best bet but I enjoy playing around with them.

Thanks again guys,

When you're facing powerful stuff it really helps to know exactly what it can and can't do. For example I faced one of the new End Times Bloodthirsters last game. It's horrific on the charge. But it remains a 5-wound model with 5+/5+ saves, which is essential to bear in mind.

Beasts is solid vs WoC. Life not so much but Flesh is good.
