I would be posting more on here, but currently my hobby attention is on other tabletop wargames (Battlefleet Gothic to be exact) - there'll probably be some updates early next year when I switch back over to Fantasy.
I actually had this crazy dumb stupid forget-about-it-it's-nothing dream that I might help revitalise the forum. I had this whole epic narrative planned out that would retcon the ET series from existence, and I thought about posting it on here in case others wanted something like that to use for their own background (amongst the other stories I had planned to publish here). But between the low traffic numbers and little feedback for the idea of sharing such background I've had on my hobby thread in the Meadow of Arts, I'm not sure there's enough demand to warrant it, and the lack of community spirit and looming merger have done much to take the wind out of my sails.
It also doesn't help that I've been feeling somewhat melancholy about this hobby for a while now. Between the metaplot and every single fantasy model GW has released for the last 3 years at least making me feel nothing but dead inside, I feel horribly alone a lot of the time - it seems like I'm left feeling angry and having only blood-curdling hatred for these things, while everyone else seems to like them. Maybe there's just something horribly wrong with me.
OK that kind of went to a place. glad to hear you're still having fun with Warhammer.
Kakapo,
There's NEVER anything stupid, or forget about it re your idea, try it out, you never know. My view is that every person that is still posting on here, is helping keep it alive. It doesn't matter if you're posting stuff about BFG whether it's painting tutorials or even tactics.. you're doing your bit to help keep this site active, I have been trying to post stuff and keep things going too, after all it takes ALL of us.. on each and every painty blog section, bung on whatever thought you're having about the state of play in your area, gripes, painting, anything.. it all helps. if we all of us did this instead of deserting the forest, there would still be more traffic..
I too have been melancholic about the hobby, I loved to game but since I moved to Norway, there's no one that plays it near me.. my nearest G.W ( in fact the ONLY G.W in Norway) is 4 hours away, and I can't drive (not allowed to
) thers' also no indep game stores any where.. Even thought of re joining G.W and trying to get them to oen a store in a city 2 hours away, it's a university city so it could do the business...
I still get to paint and am active on Da Warpath ( Gruntfuttock) but this place is depressing (literally) because it's so quiet, Ulthuan and Druchii aren't as bad! chamber of the Everchosen (warriors of Chaos site) is grumbling about the lack of participation, as are many other sites..
In fact, Kakapo, I'm extending you an invitation, come join me at Da Warpath, never worry, it doesn't matter if you don't play Greenies! I'm running an Advent Challenge to paint a miniature in a day, until the 24thof Dec, just for fun, might take your mind off the bad side of the hobby..
No you're not alone, if anything you seem to be part of the majority that hates everything that G.W has been puting out.. it's good to share your feelings and get them out in the open.. These sites are a good way of sharing with like minded folk that are more than willing to listen and offer any advice..
Remember, never give up, never give in.
