And the forest shall lead you home

Postby LadyLoec » 14 Nov 2016, 00:04

Well, most of my life is still packed in boxes in 2 rooms while my husband and I are relocating, but somehow we managed to unearth enough stuff to play 2 games (8th) today. I convinced him to use my elves for the first time after 8 years of him lamenting their lack of armour and devious nature, and he actually enjoyed it (and as he used my list and stuck quite close to the tactics I normally use, I got to probe some weaknesses in my own army to see how they'd hold up).

Sad to see the forum has been so quiet while I've been away, but hopefully there are others like me who just need to dust off their minis.

Pretty much in the same boat. Warhammer is on hold at the moment until I A) find time with a 3 year old and a 5 year old, and B) people to play it with.

I'm crushed to see the forum with so little traffic.

I would be posting more on here, but currently my hobby attention is on other tabletop wargames (Battlefleet Gothic to be exact) - there'll probably be some updates early next year when I switch back over to Fantasy.

I actually had this crazy dumb stupid forget-about-it-it's-nothing dream that I might help revitalise the forum. I had this whole epic narrative planned out that would retcon the ET series from existence, and I thought about posting it on here in case others wanted something like that to use for their own background (amongst the other stories I had planned to publish here). But between the low traffic numbers and little feedback for the idea of sharing such background I've had on my hobby thread in the Meadow of Arts, I'm not sure there's enough demand to warrant it, and the lack of community spirit and looming merger have done much to take the wind out of my sails.

It also doesn't help that I've been feeling somewhat melancholy about this hobby for a while now. Between the metaplot and every single fantasy model GW has released for the last 3 years at least making me feel nothing but dead inside, I feel horribly alone a lot of the time - it seems like I'm left feeling angry and having only blood-curdling hatred for these things, while everyone else seems to like them. Maybe there's just something horribly wrong with me.

OK that kind of went to a place. glad to hear you're still having fun with Warhammer. :)

Kakapo,

There's NEVER anything stupid, or forget about it re your idea, try it out, you never know. My view is that every person that is still posting on here, is helping keep it alive. It doesn't matter if you're posting stuff about BFG whether it's painting tutorials or even tactics.. you're doing your bit to help keep this site active, I have been trying to post stuff and keep things going too, after all it takes ALL of us.. on each and every painty blog section, bung on whatever thought you're having about the state of play in your area, gripes, painting, anything.. it all helps. if we all of us did this instead of deserting the forest, there would still be more traffic..

I too have been melancholic about the hobby, I loved to game but since I moved to Norway, there's no one that plays it near me.. my nearest G.W ( in fact the ONLY G.W in Norway) is 4 hours away, and I can't drive (not allowed to  ) thers' also no indep game stores any where.. Even thought of re joining G.W and trying to get them to oen a store in a city 2 hours away, it's a university city so it could do the business...

I still get to paint and am active on Da Warpath ( Gruntfuttock) but this place is depressing (literally) because it's so quiet, Ulthuan and Druchii aren't as bad! chamber of the Everchosen (warriors of Chaos site) is grumbling about the lack of participation, as are many other sites..

In fact, Kakapo, I'm extending you an invitation, come join me at Da Warpath, never worry, it doesn't matter if you don't play Greenies! I'm running an Advent Challenge to paint a miniature in a day, until the 24thof Dec, just for fun, might take your mind off the bad side of the hobby..

No you're not alone, if anything you seem to be part of the majority that hates everything that G.W has been puting out.. it's good to share your feelings and get them out in the open.. These sites are a good way of sharing with like minded folk that are more than willing to listen and offer any advice..

Remember, never give up, never give in.

It is indeed sad to see the forest so quiet these days but as long as one person is still posting, the site is alive.

The changes to the Warhammer World (and wider G.W. activity) have shaken the foundations of the whole gaming community, and we're still enduring the aftermath of that. There's a lot of uncertainty around still as everyone reassesses where they fit in and what direction to take for the future. As a "fringe" community even at the height of Warhammer, that uncertainty seems to have hit the Asrai harder than most but as the dust settles (and perhaps as people get used to the merger) we might find people wandering back as they realise that we're still here.

In the meantime Kakapo, the site is your metaphorical oyster - continue to post, share your background, inspire whoever's reading. The site will never be the same as it was, but it will be people like you (the ones who are still here, still posting) who will take the site forwards and (hopefully) bring about the new lease of life when people start coming back.

So, on behalf of all the lurkers waiting for the site to come out of hibernation, stay positive and keep up the good work :)

Hopefully the site can stay alive! I still play AoS every now and then, so I check up on the site.

See the weird thing is that while that was certainly true two or three years ago, I feel like now the majority has gone back to loving everything GW does. Everywhere I look I see people in the community singing praises for GW's latest models (and I still cannot find anything I like about them), the campaign books and bringing back things like Bloodbowl. On Warseer for instance I seem to see more positive comments about GW than negative ones these days. Which makes it hard for me because I still hate almost everything they're doing - the only two good things they've done in my eyes is the Made To Order archive service (and even that has a lot of room for improvement) and putting some rules for the Sisters of Battle in 40k in a physical format - but now I feel like I can't express any of my negative feelings for fear of being off-topic at best and shouted down by overwhelming popular opinion at worst.

Like I say though, the major reason behind my lack of activity recently is due to my forum activity in general being heavily compartmentalised. I see Asrai.org as 'my Wood Elf forum' so I usually only post stuff up if I'm working on Wood Elf related things (or if an interesting conversation comes up, but that doesn't happen as much these days), and at the moment that's not what I'm working on hobby wise. You should start to see more from me in January/February as I switch over to Warhammer Fantasy projects again. In the meantime if you want to accelerate the process then comment on my thread in the Meadow of Arts. I know it sounds really superficial and pathetic, but a lot of my online content is heavily motivated by the level of demand I perceive for it, so the more encouragement I get the better (especially for background stories).
