But let's not get off track here. Rumours rumours rumours, saying one set of rumours makes more sense because it's written better is just crazy. I mean the guy who writes this stuff is just bullet pointing it's hardly meant to be some kind of legal document?
Also the second guys story sounds questionable. I dont know but don't GW employees get kept in the dark about new products right up to the wire or the day before release. But this guy seems like he has been having a few practice games with his store manager (is what he wants you to believe). I doubt that's true, unless it's someone from the design team or a regional manager of some kind but I very much doubt that they would be willing to risk their job for this, there can't be that many people who know what's in that box?

Not if GW are serious about keeping secrets. They seem to be trying the hardcore russian approach.
Also, what rumours seems more believeable according to people here tend to be those that fits with their personal ideas and wishes.

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
Meh. I really have nothing useful to add to this discussion because I don't know anything at all. Endless speculation can be fun but ultimately, for me, it is frustrating because we just don't know! And we won't know until we have the book in our hands. Argument over it is useless. (Not that there's any kind of serious argument going on here but at my favorite gaming place - Little Wars - the "debate" has occasionally gotten hot and heavy.) However I do think it would be/is fun to throw all of our predictions and speculations out there and then see who comes the closest to being right.

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
Sure it's speculation.. but some of the rumor sources have known other stuff and where correct then. The fact multiple older rumors are more in line with one of the last 2 main rumors makes that one more believable to me. It also seems a more logical move to me.frogboy wrote:It doesn't matter if your black or white - MJ

I'm not sure how these rumors start.. but since a few end being up correct in the end I can only assume that some people who are in the know are risking leaking the info.
Well.. if the latter rumor is correct and this is only the skirmish game we (people with complete armies large enough to play 2K games) don't really need to buy it.. at least I guess most of us are more interested in the full battle game.. assuming those rules will come after this ofcCernunnos wrote:I predict that Age of Siggy played Guitar will cost the proverbial arm and leg

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
The smaller, skirmish type games or smaller point total games like 500 pts also serve to get new people into the hobby without having to sink a ton of money into it just to place an army on the board. That in itself would be a useful thing just for bringing in new blood. It is also fun for beer-and-pretzels nights when a bunch of people can whip up a quick round robin without rounds taking 3+ hours.Aezeal wrote:Well.. if the latter rumor is correct and this is only the skirmish game we (people with complete armies large enough to play 2K games) don't really need to buy it.. at least I guess most of us are more interested in the full battle game.. assuming those rules will come after this ofc

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
IMHO they should just make a small army box for 750 points with unique models from the core troops and 1-2 characters which are not as good looking or advanced (so no multipose, no left over bits you pay for which you don't need). That way there would be a low entry cost for each army (and lower costs for GW so there still is a profit). If you continue with the game and expand you could buy more core troops but then the better looking variant for the "regular" (high) price GW asks, and special troops, rares, monsters and more characters also of the current high quality.
I think there is a market for cheaper and a bit less good looking models, certainly for beginners.
I guess making lower quality stuff again isn't a thing GW wants to do though. I just hate paying for all those left over bits.. it's not like it's a small part of the sprue... on Durthu I think I literally had half the pieces of the kit left over (that entry I made for the conversion contest was all from the left over parts.. it's nearly a full treeman and I still have more parts). I guess that is just me being true to my dutch nature .
Anyway In a month we'll know more.. I just hope they give some clarification for what we can expect for the future.. I'm hesitant to buy stuff when I don't know what is going to happen... as I said.. I'm not really interested in a skirmish game when I can still play a larger game. I have the models anyway. Skirmish rules I'll probably not buy just read somehow so I know what is going on.

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
Once the molds have been manufactured the extra bit of plastic needed to fill them is trivial to the cost. The cost of making the box of Wildriders/Sisters of the Thorn for instance is trivial compared to the cost of making the molds in the first place. If you're going to pay out the cost of making the molds then you might as well go ahead and make them with all kinds of extra bits thrown in for added value to the customer as the extra plastic is not even a factor. Then the cost of the full color printed and shrink wrapped box is also high - probably higher than that of the product inside it. Then you've got shipping and the profit margin of the retail shop that sells it. That's why you don't get significantly lower prices buying direct from GW by the way. The retail profit is retained by them. If they undercut their retailers by any significant degree nobody would stock their product.
So how's that for a sidebar to the discussion at hand?
But to return to the theme of the thread, it makes sense for GW to release a small scale, relatively cheap version of the game in order to get new people into the hobby before socking them with the cost of a 2400 pt army (with alternates). So if this turns out to be a small, skirmish type SUPPLEMENT to WFB I will be all for it.

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
I'm kinda stoked that the turn around is coming quickly. A new mini-skirmish game with different rules could be what the game needs. I always hated the magic system, and I think a balanced algorithm for point costs could be made in a less-arbitrary way with a new edition.

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
I think we will be returning to one of the "OLD" Magic systems; I am sure some of what has been rumoured reminds me of the 3rd and 4th Editions (without the cardboard bolt thrower and Grom's chariot) LOL!
Perhaps someone with a better memory than me, who still has access to either of these Editions (4th was the first "Starter Set" High Elves vs Goblins; the 3rd was more RPG with an Army Book and Rule Book both Hard Back).
Could be interesting to revisit this era and do a comparison with some of the more believable rumours IMHO!
Good Hunting - why reinvent the wheel when only a Handful of players can remember this far back, just an off-the-wall thought; definitely NOT based on any "inside info", could be worth a shot!

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
There's loads of older players out there ( me being one of them) that remember that far back, was the start of the red phase my eyes still haven't recovered yet! In the grim darkness of the far future there was only RED!!!!!! in the grim setting of wfb everyone needed shades. Even the Shades!Merlin Elf friend wrote:why reinvent the wheel when only a Handful of players can remember this far back, just an off-the-wall thought; definitely NOT based on any "inside info", could be worth a shot!
But it was a good and fun system. My waaagh deck lived in my case.

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
Has anybody heard any information about future release dates of the other Age of Sigmar armybooks?
Chaos and Sigmarites seems like they will ship with the boxed game on July 11 (Free slushie day!) but do we have any information on the other ~4 army books?

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
No I've been paying attention to the rumors but I've not heard anything about that. They've been releasing 40K books like mad though.. so if they are smart they release them quick.... but that is just speculation. Read nothing.

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
I am supposed to be getting a small update from my GW source around the 30th June; because I am on holiday during the pre-order period; but back for the Main release and Launch Party on the 11th July Yea!!
Most of the Information will be about what is to be released on the 11th, just have to see if anything else slips out.
So watch this space - nothing known about the other Army/Faction Books as yet!

Well, looks like feckless is still there! Siggy plays guitar should be hammered to death by his own priests for posessing the body of Karl Franz! Sounds like glottkin and Naggy are still there too! Hope Orion is, he is pretty iconic for us. Besides which, I like the jolly green giant.
Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
While it's undoubtably something real it hardly looks like a rule book to me. For a new edition lore book it has a lot of mentions of the past.. could be so I guess but it's not how I'd write it. Could it be a WD article or something? (I've not actually read a WD in a while so no idea if it matches the layout).

It does look very like an extract from one of the newish weekly White Dwarf's.

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
Well more rumors (BoLS)... the new base kit is now rumored to be pretty small in model size really. I actually thought the lots of models when I started for a relatively cheap price where a good way to attract people.. if you start with a lot of models.. well having a lot of models is always nice isn't it?
The mention simple rules.. I wonder if that means just the base rules needed to play with the kit or the rules for the game as a whole (even if you play with larger armies). I think (and hope) the former.. there is no mention of a mage, no artilery, no scouts, no vanguard etc etc so a lot of rules could be left out of it if you only play with the base set.
There seems no point in getting the kit for experienced elven players though. If my hopes are correct even the rulebook is useless if there will be a more complete book later.
It does seem like a good set for beginners.. if GW can only get the price low and somehow market it so lots of kids see it. If they could get the base set in regular toy stores.. that would be nice . If it's a complete game where no extra purchases are needed then I think that would be a real good move. A lot might not buy more.. but I guess there is more chance of people buying there and then 1/10 getting interested in the game and find a specialist store than the chance of kids just walking into a store that sells warhammer.

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
This set gives me some hope as the infantry is described as state troops with muskets and spears. This conflict with all the latest rumours talking about how rare fire arms will be and that the setting is more early medieval/High fantasy. What gives it some credibility is that the two sets from which you could model those unit were among the Empire boxes removed.
And the knights too.
And it matches the Chaos stuff removed.
But ther was a rumour earlier about this just being another step towards the new setting. It talked about a game set in a ruined Empire city were both sides fought about something that could hasten the end or prevent it.
So it can very well be a stand-alone game like the Asses sin game and another step in drivning home the new setting.
But if I am allowed to have some hope, the skirmish setting will be the End Times since such a time of chaos is perfect for smal unit confrontations.
But what will come next? What about the elves?

Re: "Age of Sigmar" speculations
Actually there was only 1 rumor (a large article though) that said that. Most other rumors where in line with this one which is why I thought that that rumor was just someone having fun. I think this is just a starter set with only the basic rules needed to play with those troops. I've played for 6 months with my starter set (elves vs goblins) without getting new stuff so I think it can very well be used as stand alone.. but I'm pretty sure it will be a table top game and not a board game like the assassins thing.
I guess next up will be rules for the complete setting to play warhammer as we know it.. and the army books. I doubt army books will be in this box, just stats of these troops I'd guess. Logically you'd print the whole game rules before or at the same time you release the first army books.

I will be very disappointed if you only get withdrawn Empire and Chaos models in the Starter Set (maybe with one unique character) and only enough "rules" to play with the models in the box!
I certainly won't buy that!
Here's hoping you are wrong about this at least.
