Lady of the Lake

Post by Wolfen »

Looking through the iPad sample of the book I found this interesting piece of info. Apparently Ariel controls the Lady of the Lake. I know that this had been rumored or even implied before. Thoughts?

Interesting. Mat Ward did say in the latest White Dwarf that the new book reveals some new secrets and answers several questions. This clearly looks to be one of them. WFRP has revealed a lot of hints in the past, but nothing quite this major...

I thought that was "common knowledge". The fey enchantress even has the same stats as an elven mage iirc.

It's been inferred that it was the case many times but this is the first time it's been written out as fact. Very interesting.

The Fey Enchantress isn't the same as the Lady of the Lake. It's "common knowledge" that the Fey Enchantress is a Wood Elf, and is tasked by Ariel to keep the Bretonnians 'under the thumb'. But the Lady of the Lake is a goddess (supposedly), which is a whole different ball park. As far as I know, there's been nothing written before about the Lady of the Lake in regards to Ariel...

The full entry talks about gods of the land under attack, and the future of the world depending on theses avatars of nature, and Lady of the Lake and Ariel Herself being amongst them.

It's not explicitly said that Ariel *controls* the LotL, in fact it's read more like she's an independent agent that Ariel has taken advantage of to shield Athel Loren.

It has long been rumoured or hinted that the lady of the lake is Ariel in disguise but the fluff entry states that the lady of the lake is an independant goddess in her own right.

being worshiped like a goddess and being a goddess are two different things.

The wording stated that they were both goddesses. Jump on itunes and d/load the free sample of the new wood elf book, you'll see what I mean.

In the the last Brets book I seem to remember the Lotl being mentioned as one who could be an elf. Not that she definitely is one.

nothing in the Brett's book specifically other than they obviously Elven profile sported by the Fey Enchantress who was the Lady of the Lake's herald in the mortal world.
However in the timeline section of the wood elf book one of the events was Ariel despatching the Fey Enchantress to Brettonia to keep the humans in check. It was unspoken specifically in text but this connection lead many to believe the lady of the lake was Ariel in disguise, especially seeing as when Guilles Le Bretton (sp?) first encountered her, it was on a lake in the province of Quenelles (also sp?) which is the province bordering on Athel Loren. Male children in Brettonia with magical ability were abducted by the fey enchantress never to return in the brettonian book, Male human children enchanted never to grow old serve food in drink in the sylvan halls of Wood Elf nobles in the Wood Elf book.

There was enough circumstantial evidence to make the connection that the entire Lady of the Lake persona if not Ariel was at least another powerful spellweaver under Ariel's instruction to keep the humans both in line, and as a nice well armoured buffer zone between Athel Loren and the rest of the world.

However! New books, mean new fluffs! So those subtle connections will probably be gone. Especially seeing as Brettonian players didn't neccesarily appreciate being told that the entire belief system that their army was built on (in the fluff of course) was all a subtle elven manipulation.
