So... kitchen units for sale, huh?

In the last site update did the security for joining change?

The security changed a lot (the old systems crashed, the new ones kinda sorta almost work). It's very tricky, and the bots get smarter every day.

I suggest trying nucaptcha.com. They have pretty great captcha technology and it's free for sites like this one (< 10,000 captchas per month). They also have a phpBB plugin.

The NuCaptcha plugin was the one we used while these bots came through it. So that one is scrapped for me.

Now I can't stop thinking about renovating my kitchen. I don't think it's worth pissing off the forest spirits just to build any new cabinets, though. ;)

I have to say this site always had minimal bots, far far less then some of the other sites. Good job on this Naggie.

Now a new CAPTCHA system is being tested. Hopefully the bots will stop occurring. Or maybe this one is easier to bypass according to them. It will be a few interesting days ahead for me.

With all the time you spend taking care of the forum, Naggie, how do you find time for Warhammer? It must be brutal.

I haven't played a game since 2009, and haven't painted a model in about as many years. I do the techy stuff, you guys have to stand for the warhammer content :)

These kitchens seem to be popping up on many sites. Maybe we should be interested in buying a kitchen and then:

These kitchen bots have been specifically created to target phpBB sites and have managed to crack all of the CAPTCHA plugins phpBB offer at the moment. I wonder if I should go back to the effective but boring Q&A method where you need to answer a couple of easy questions when registering."If you paint three waywatchers and then four wardancers, how many models have you painted?" Or something like that.

OK, after the latest flood of Kitchen-selling robots, can I make a general request please?

If you see one of these threads please just hit the report button, and leave it alone. I appreciate that they might annoy people, and that it is an inconvenience none of us want but, as the poor sod who has to go around and delete most of these 'bots, it doesn't make my job any easier when people insist on posting replies in all these spam topics.

We're doing what we can to stop these things for good, but in the meantime, we need people to grin and bear it. So please don't reply to the topics! Just hit the report button

Thanks for letting us know to report. I've been loathe to hit report because I don't want to spam your guys inboxes alerting you of a problem you already know about. But will do from here on out.

It's not so much about spamming our inboxes - reporting the threads makes it a lot easier to actually spot them on the forum. Not only do the reports show up in the Moderator Control Panel, but the actual threads are highlighted with giant warning signs on the forum, which makes them hard to miss. It makes it a lot easier to delete them if I can find them in the first place!

so... does this seem to be getting worse to anyone?

If only there was a way we could explain to the bots that we're wargamers. We don't need their steenking kitchens! Now, if they were bots selling cheap warhammer minis...

EDIT!: Also this is in no way meant as a bitch or a whinge in regards to the running of this site. I love this forum and appreciate all the hard work Naggie and the other guys do. Just wished there was something we ordinary Plebians could do to help with these bastard-bots! (there's donating of course, which I try to whenever I can)

I think it's a mixture of it getting worse and timing. I feel like I've been slower off the mark with hunting the bots down recently, don't know about the other mods.

But as Naggie's likely to pop in and say, we haven't found an effective CAPTCHA system yet.

I go way back to Apple II's, Ataris, and Vic 20s, but its been years since I have really had time to follow stuff about the details of the internet and running websites. I had no idea that security had so much to it. I am the kind of person who might have made a reply to some of those postings, so I consider myself warned now, and won't reply.

Thanks for the work you put in on the site, O Great Counsel of the Asrai!

There getting worse for sure

Since i haven't been working I spend a fair bit of time loitering in these forums, usually in the morning UK time I see at least 12-13 but most people are quick off the mark to report them. Also I've noticed they seem to come in waves at different intervals.

There all around us ! We got bots inside the wire :paranoid:
