The Waystones of Coeddil - Tree Spirits vs Asrai

Post by godswearhats »

Moose123 and I are going to have a battle pitting Drycha and her Forest Spirits against the Asrai battle host of Lord Aldaeld, riding on his Forest Dragon. Drycha is attempting to destroy the Waystones the keep Coeddil trapped. We'll need to come up with exact rules, but the idea is that there will be extra VPs depending on whether the Waystones are destroyed or intact at the battle's end.

Rules:

* 3500 pts
* Drycha can only take Forest Spirits
* Aldaeld can only take Elves
* No-one is allowed Forest Spirits that are also Elves

We'll have two more threads, one for the background/fluff and army list for each side, and this thread will be used for the battle report itself. Please get involved and give us each advice and encouragement for army construction and tactics during the game.

Three or four I guess. We don't want to have so many they don't matter or so few it becomes like the watchtower.

I think three is a good number.

Yeah you are probably remembering ... Waystones! Right there on p125 of the BRB. Any wizard within 6" gets +1 on channelling attempts.

And yes, three sounds good.

That's WAY to boring! (accidental pun here, not intentional :paranoid:)
How about like, all Elves withing 3 inches get +1 strength, and all forest spirits gain ASF.

Obviously that is heavily in favor of the spirits but something cool like that, something that promots lots of killing  Not like the pansy high elf ones that already have rules in the BRB

Sounds good. Any characteristic except wounds however, multiwound eternal guard would be way too annoying :D

For a turn? Remainder of battle? Any unit within 6"?

Yep, not wounds.

Waystone of Coeddil: Impassable terrain.
At the begining of your magic phase test for any friendly unit test for every unit withing 6 inches of a waystone. On a roll of 2+ that unit gains +1 to a random characteristic, except wounds. On a 1 the unit gains +1 to a characteristic of your choice, other than wounds. The effect lasts until your next magic phase.

Destroying a waystone. A waystone can only be attacked by a model with strength 5 or higher. Waystones are hit automatically and have toughness 8. Each waystone has X wounds.

Not really sure on the amount of wounds, it depends on how many waystones there are. If there are 3 waystones waybe like 5 wounds each. If there are only two then 7 wounds, with four waystones 4 wounds each. The more wounds each waystone has the more VP's you should get for destroying them and the less I should get for preserving them. These are just my guesses, it's hard to balance out the details on these things.

I like the effects. Maybe we could just award VPs for controlling the Waystones at the end of the battle? Otherwise you don't get to score any VPs outside of normal rules ...

^Also, strength 5 or over may favor the spirits. Really looking forward to this.

Only the spirits care about destroying the stones. The elves want to keep Coeddil locked up!

Moose is working on scenery layout then we'll be ready to start.

How's this for terrain? If you don't like it it's so easy for me to change the whole thing.
