WFO scenery - [8th ed - Steadfast sanctum]

Post by shiodome »

I made a thread recently about making icons for WFO units. I played around with it and whilst most units could be made distinctive from each other (exepct on 20m bases where it got very hard), the sprites couldn't deal with being 'rotated' (e.g the rotate tool on gimp, which can distort things). After being rotated things got too distorted and undecipherable. But Scenery on the other hand... Well i just enjoy doodling.

I'll just update with bits of scenery as i draw them, anyone is welcome to use them, I'll add a note as to what i was going for (cover level, diff' terrain etc) but just ignore it if you want to use differently.

Note: Happy to do requests ;)

Individual trees:
Image
just draw a shape on your map and add trees as you see fit (you can resize them in GIMP to make bushes etc, or to make them fit on the base without overlapping). e.g:
Image

and because it's the most common wood on this forum, a premade 6"x6" wood.

That's fantastic! Who'd have thought you could get such a great looking image just from using Paint?

I'm really looking forward to seeing what other scenery you produce Shiodome :)

That's awesome

What's your process like? How long did it take you to make the tower or the village?

swamp added.

don't really time it, but the swamp took since slightly after the last post in my game vs Beithir Seun (13:24) until now (including uploading and making this post). so i'd say 20-25 minutes?

Shiodome, that artwork is amazing.

Moderaters, I personally think that shiodome should get a title to the fact of "painter".

Was trying to work out how to make 'segments' for a customisable river. Made this as a trial run on how to make a river in the first place before confusing it with ensuring uniform segment ends :P

added a small ruin and stone circle

Going with a skull theme I see...

Oh, could you do a Tzeentch-y tower of flame type thing? Blue of course. That would be sweet...

Well... just like a geyser type thing.

I'd be happy if you just did it when it wasn't "erupting!"

to be honest i can't picture what you mean, you got any kind of reference pic or quick doodle you can put up? the thing i was thinking of was some horrible organic Escher thing... why not? hell, the ruin i'm drawing at the moment is a fish, so anything goes

Chaos (fish) Ruin:
Image
Hard cover, difficult terrain

decided there was no reason a giant skeleton couldn't count as a ruin? it is the chaos waste after all... :p pleased with this, because it's the first time i've ever drawn er... a fish skeleton (oddly enough).

Oh, sure! Um... I hope our scanner is working...

Give me a bit to find some examples...

I can't find any. I know I saw something in a White Dwarf a few years ago... 2007 maybe? They had a pretty good article on Daemon World terrain for 40k, said flame geyser was one of the examples.

Anyway

problem is everything is 'top down' in WFO... from above a geyser (magical flame or not) is just a fuzzy circle?
