Its a magic missile and does need line of sight and the Vampire does indeed not have line of sight and I shall pretend that thats what I meant to do all along :) Just so you know if you didnt, I can re cast Invocation as many times as I have dice as its a necromancy spell.

OK, so you have 3 dice?

Here is my dispel attempt. I will throw 2/3 dice at this first one.

Dispel Attempt
2d6 >= 6
1 + 5 = 6 ... success

First attempt goes away. Do you want to try again?

dispel attempt
1d6 >= 4
1 = 1 ... failure

You DO get magic off this phase! :D So one green wolf back.

That, I believe is the end of your turn, correct? And that would make it my turn, and this would be turn 4, right?

Oh, and just to clarify, the ghouls are T4 is that right?

Postby TheMiz » 30 May 2009, 21:33

I am going to charge into your green dire wolves with my green dryads - hey it's turn 4 let's get the party started. I believe 4 of them are within 10 inches. I do not think you can do anything but hold, so I went ahead and moved them up. (I added back a wolf.)

The rest of my moves are shown. The Glade Riders swing around the marsh. The Wardancers march up (they were more than 8" away) behind the charging dryads, and the yellow dryads move back into the trees (I intend for them to be within 2" of the border of the trees).

Image

I have no magic, so onto shooting.

My glade riders will shoot at your light blue ghouls (the ones on the left). I still have them within short range.

Glade Riders to hit
1d6 >= 3
1: 5 = 5 ... success
2: 5 = 5 ... success
3: 3 = 3 ... success
4: 5 = 5 ... success
5: 3 = 3 ... success

S3 weapons against T4 ghouls.

Glade Riders to wound
1d6 >= 5
1: 2 = 2 ... failure
2: 4 = 4 ... failure
3: 4 = 4 ... failure
4: 5 = 5 ... success
5: 4 = 4 ... failure

1 wound on those light blue ghouls.

Close combat:
I will do the 3 dryads that are hitting first. And I believe the wolves are T3, correct me if I am wrong.

So 6 attacks with WS4 versus WS3 (the wolves have WS3, correct?)

Dryads to hit

1d6 >= 3
1: 1 = 1 ... failure
2: 3 = 3 ... success
3: 5 = 5 ... success
4: 4 = 4 ... success
5: 4 = 4 ... success
6: 6 = 6 ... success

5 hits at S4 against T3

Dryads to wound
1d6 >= 3
1: 4 = 4 ... success
2: 6 = 6 ... success
3: 6 = 6 ... success
4: 1 = 1 ... failure
5: 4 = 4 ... success

4 wounds. I think that kills all of the wolves, so I won't move onto the Branchwraith.

I want to overrun.

Overrun move
2d6
3 + 2 = 5

They surge forward 5 inches. When I measure, I have the edge of my Branchwriath just making contact with the ghouls (I went back and removed 1 of the ghouls).
Image

That would make it the middle of turn 4 (your turn). And I have the map looking like:
Image

OK? Does that all look alright to you?

I had thought about it but for the first game with VC I think I'll have to do better than that. I will concede that you have me out manouvered and I have made some pretty poor decisions but Im not chucking the towel in yet. I'm having trouble getting on the puter long enough to get the next move done but bear with me. Sorry for the delays.

VC and dire wolves charge, VC only just gets in.I wanted him in more solidly but I would have clipped the woods.
The dark blue ghouls moved back 2 inches. So magic....Invocation on the light blue ghouls to get them back to 15 and get a rank back.

on two dice....

Here are a couple of questions:

If you would have clipped the woods, you still would have had enough charge distance to make it in, so why wouldn't you be able to do that?

I think my Wardancers can see your wolves around the trees, do you agree? So can I charge them (assuming the dryads don't run - which may be wishful thinking) since they may be partially within the woods?

I think moving those ghouls back was a good move. I was thinking about charging my glade riders into the light blue ghouls. Can they still make it, or do the dark blue ghouls block them? (I think they can still see the light blue ghouls, but I don't think I can get in with just 1 wheel.)

I just didnt really want to end up in the woods, if you want to move them up a wee bit so the vamp is more in combat thats ok.
WDs can totally see the red dire wolves and have a clear charge.
I dont think the fast cav can charge as I think even fast cav can only wheel once.

I try to cast Invocation one more time...all down to the dice.....

Oh that was embarrassing Im not telling you what I rolled but it doesnt work.

Comabt.. your Branch wraith goes first, then my Vamp and the dryads dice off as to who is next, then the wolves fight and then if there are any ghouls available they go last. Hows that?

Here is my Branchwraith:

WS6 v WS3 x3
Branchwraith to hit
1d6 >= 3
1: 1 = 1 ... failure
2: 3 = 3 ... success
3: 6 = 6 ... success

2 S4 hits v T4
Branchwraith to Wound
1d6 >= 4
1: 6 = 6 ... success
2: 1 = 1 ... failure

Roll off for next turn:
Roll off Dryads v. VC
1d6
1 = 1

Here is my roll in case of a tie (please be a tie):
Re-roll for tie
1d6
5 = 5

Summary: 1 wound to ghouls from Branchwraith. VC to roll off for next attack.

I think they can go against either. I re-read p45 of the BRB, and the last paragraph talks about this scenario. See what you think. I will go by what you think, I was going to try and hit with 3 dryads against the ghouls, and the 1 dryad in the back rank against the wolves.

So here are 3 dryads attacking the ghouls.:

Dryads to hit
1d6 >= 3
1: 3 = 3 ... success
2: 4 = 4 ... success
3: 6 = 6 ... success
4: 5 = 5 ... success
5: 2 = 2 ... failure
6: 5 = 5 ... success

5 S4 hits v. T4

Dryads to wound
1d6 >= 4
1: 6 = 6 ... success
2: 5 = 5 ... success
3: 6 = 6 ... success
4: 3 = 3 ... failure
5: 5 = 5 ... success

What do you think about that last dryad?

Yup it seems pretty clear on that.

So the front rank of ghouls are killed or unanimated...next the last dryad goes against the DWs...
Then the Vamp and the wolves .......if there are any left.

Dryad WS4 v Wolf WS3

Dryad v. DW
1d6 >= 3
1: 2 = 2 ... failure
2: 5 = 5 ... success

To wound: S4 v. T3
Dryad v. DW to wound
1d6 >= 3
1 = 1 ... failure

Nothin' So 5 "unanimated" ghouls. Nothing else. Then it is Mr. V's turn, then the Dire wolves, then the ghouls... but they shouldn't have anything to hit back with, correct?

Re: WFO: mawpit (VC) vs. TheMiz (WE) - 500 pts.

Postby mawpit » 05 Jun 2009, 06:20

That is correct, no ghouls attacking back....ok so Vampire....

Vamp 3 attacks hitting on 3s wounding on 2s (lance)
Result of the throw of dice "3d6" :

1 + 5 + 4 = 10
2 hits....

Result of the throw of dice "2d6" :

2 + 2 = 4
Two wounds....

Nightmare....1 attack on a 4+
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

6 = 6
hit... 4 to wound

Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

6 = 6
so three wounds from the Vamp and the Nightmare..save on 5+ ward

Two wolves hitting on 4s wounding on 5s
Result of the throw of dice "2d6" :

3 + 1 = 4
nuffink.

So saves and then combat res.

Ward saves
1d6 >= 5
1: 2 = 2 ... failure
2: 6 = 6 ... success
3: 4 = 4 ... failure

2 wounds on my dryads.

So combat resolution: You outnumber me, you had 1 extra rank, you have my flank, and you did 2 unsaved wounds. (=5) I did 5 unsaved wounds. (=5). So I think we tied in combat. Correct me if I am wrong. I will do my moves later... do you want me to move Mr. V around a bit?

When you say challenge, are you issuing a challenge? I think I can decline. And I will. There is a spot where my BW can hide out, I think.

I charge the DW with the yellow dryads (I would have rathered charge the ghouls, but I had the flank, not the rear, and I don't think I can make it in), and I charge the DW with the wardancers. They will do their +1 ATT dance. THe GR have moved behind the ghouls.

Image

Shooting and the charging CC will be coming soon... I'm getting busy at work. Does this look OK to you? 1 more wound, and the BW wouldn't have had a place to hide.

Glade Riders shooting at the dark blue ghouls

Glade Riders to hit
1d6 >= 3
1: 1 = 1 ... failure
2: 3 = 3 ... success
3: 2 = 2 ... failure
4: 6 = 6 ... success
5: 6 = 6 ... success

3 S3 hits against T4 ghouls
Glade Riders to wound
1d6 >= 5
1: 6 = 6 ... success
2: 3 = 3 ... failure
3: 6 = 6 ... success

Two wounds.

Lets start CC! So my yellow dryads will go first.

Only 3 of them can get into combat against your flank.

3 Dryads (2 ATT each) at WS4 v. Dire Wolves WS3
Yellow Dryads to hit
1d6 >= 3
1: 2 = 2 ... failure
2: 1 = 1 ... failure
3: 6 = 6 ... success
4: 5 = 5 ... success
5: 1 = 1 ... failure
6: 4 = 4 ... success

3 S4 hits v. T3
Yellow Dryads to wound

1d6 >= 3
1: 2 = 2 ... failure
2: 3 = 3 ... success
3: 1 = 1 ... failure

1 Wound from the dryads.

Wardancers against Dire Wolves. They do their +1ATT dance, and they get +1 ATT and +1S from their weapons

So 4 Wardancers (with 3 attacks each) at WS6 v. WS3
Wardancers to hit
1d6 >= 3
1: 6 = 6 ... success
2: 1 = 1 ... failure
3: 3 = 3 ... success
4: 5 = 5 ... success
5: 4 = 4 ... success
6: 2 = 2 ... failure
7: 1 = 1 ... failure
8: 6 = 6 ... success
9: 1 = 1 ... failure
10: 1 = 1 ... failure
11: 6 = 6 ... success
12: 6 = 6 ... success

7 S4 hits v. T3
Wardancers to wound
1d6 >= 3
1: 6 = 6 ... success
2: 5 = 5 ... success
3: 4 = 4 ... success
4: 4 = 4 ... success
5: 6 = 6 ... success
6: 1 = 1 ... failure
7: 5 = 5 ... success

6 wounds.

So 7 wounds on that unit. I think the unit takes 5, and 2 go to your vampire for armor/ward saves, but I am not sure on that...

Next would be the roll off between the dryads and the VC, since the Branchwraith is not fighting this turn.

Roll off for Dryads v. VC #2
1d6
3 = 3

Re-roll for tie #2
1d6
1 = 1

Summary: 2 wounds on dark blue ghouls from shooting. 7 wounds on Dire Wolves from close combat. And wee still have the rest of this CC to resolve.

In the name of Nagash this is the most complex combat I have ever been involved in.
The wounds on on the red wolves are lost as far as I know as the VC has different stats etc.

VC and Dryads roll off for inititive.
Result of the throw of dice "1d6" :

So I go first ( I rolled a 3 first and a 1 for back up and you rolled a 1 first - I think maybe you didn't see that I did that above). You must be right about those wounds... It doesn't make sense otherwise. Maybe we should ask about that just to clarify, but I think we should proceed with those wounds lost. (Will they count towards CR?)

Here are 4 dryads attacking against the ghouls.

Dryads to hit
1d6 >= 3
1: 4 = 4 ... success
2: 4 = 4 ... success
3: 3 = 3 ... success
4: 4 = 4 ... success
5: 3 = 3 ... success
6: 4 = 4 ... success
7: 5 = 5 ... success
8: 3 = 3 ... success

Niiiice:

Dryads to wound
1d6 >= 4
1: 2 = 2 ... failure
2: 2 = 2 ... failure
3: 5 = 5 ... success
4: 5 = 5 ... success
5: 3 = 3 ... failure
6: 3 = 3 ... failure
7: 6 = 6 ... success
8: 6 = 6 ... success

4 wounds on the ghouls.

Where I put your VC, leaves him out of contact with my back row, so I can't attack against the VC.

Now it is the vampire and 1 ghoul attacking back.
