Artisan's Contest April 2015 Aezeal Wins

Post by frogboy »

Welcome to the next instalment of the Artisan's Contest! For those of you unfamiliar with what this is, where have you been! ;) So basically what happens is that we all try to think of new rules or fluff or whatever and write about it here, its a compitition :D
have a look at our previous winner to get a better idea http://www.asrai.org/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=15652

What to enter?

The theme for this contest will be relatively simple and before someone says it i know we have already used this theme before but its a new book now. So with that in mind, the task for this contest is:

A new Magical item

To be more specific, this should be designed with the current Wood Elf army book in mind.

Deadline
The deadline for submission of entries is 30th April 2015 11:59pm GMT

Rules of the competition

Each member may only enter once, and with one Magical item per entry.

You MUST have the following per entry:

1. Basic Points Cost
2. Fluff
4. Full details of any additional effects the magical item bestows

This shouldn't be too difficult, but if your entry does not include all the above by the closing deadline it will not be included.

ENTRIES SHOULD BE POSTED IN THIS THREAD.

This thread is only for entries - any other posts will be deleted.

Any questions should be addressed in a PM to me, or posted in the Rules and Guidelines thread

A reminder of the judging criteria for consideration:
  • Use of Language (is it professionally written?): /10
  • Playability (are the rules streamlined?): /10
  • Balance (are the rules and points fair and do they adhere to typical GW design?): /10
  • Fun (do the rules make for a fun experience?): /10
  • Lore (are the rules fluffy and do they fit the character of the theme?): /10
Bear these in mind when submitting your entry. You will not be allowed to edit your entry once it is posted so make sure it is the way you want it when you post it, including formatting.

I stole this from Beithir Seun :D

Wild Wood Sap 50 points
Enchanted Item

Collected from ancient trees growing at the edge of the Wild Wood the sap is thought to be pure mischief. It leaks from the trees and some refer to it as their tears believing that the pain of the Wildwood is too much to bear. Young Nobles and often Highborn carry the rare substance in little jars around their necks in times of war and will often share the substance with their unit before the battle.

One use only. Once Open the Character must either stay in the unit he is with or if the Character is solo then cannot join a unit. Use at the beginning of your turn, once open the Character, unit and mounts he is with gain the Frenzy rule and add plus 1 strength to their characteristic. In addition at the end of the owning players close combat phase and at the end of each additional owning players close combat phase the unit is subject to D6 strength 1 hits no armour saves allowed, distributed as shooting.

The Ironbark
Magic Armour - 25 pts

While being turned to a Treekin, Amadri still remembers vividly what it is to be an Elf of flesh and blood. When the Asrai go to war, to face Athel Loren's enemies, they stand united with Forest Spirits of all kind. Whilst his fighting days are over, Amadri hates to stand idly by. Asrai worthy of his support are granted a part of his ill-gained protection

The Ironbark may be taken by Wizards.
The Ironbark is a magic armour that confers Scaly Skin (+3) to it's bearer.
The bearer also gains the Forest Spirit special rule and Hatred (Demons of Chaos).

The Ironbark is destroyed on the first unsaved wound from a Flaming attack (close combat, shooting or magic).

Waystalker Traps
Enchanted item
25 points

Waystalkers are feared for their markmanship and renown for their ability to conceal and ambush. They often roam Athel Loren alone and when they encounter a large band of foul intruders or huge monstrous creatures even their legendary archery skills may need some assistance. In such situations they lure the prey into concealed traps specifically designed to deal with the enemy at hand. Monstrous beasts get impaled by spiked falling logs and more numerous enemies are lured into the deadly embrace of Loren's strangleroot vines or in venomous brambles with poisoned thorns.
This is the ancient trapping kit of a nameless Waystalker, the kit is unadorned and simple but those who have used it have felt the blessing of Kurnous when placing their traps and when seeing the hated enemies of Athel Loren die in unanticipated numbers

One use only. Can only be use by a waystalker. Can only be used in a forest.
When the waystalker or the unit he is with is charged you can use this item in addition to the regular charge reaction (hold, stand and shoot or flee).

Spiked log: D3 (+1) strength 6 hits, no armor save allowed
Strangleroot vines: D6 (+2) strength 4 hits
Poisoned thorns: 2D6 (+3) strength 2 hits, automatically wounds on a 6
The value between brackets is only applied when the Waystalker is assisted by waywatchers when placing the traps (when the waystalker is in a unit of waywatchers.

Incisor - 20 points, Magic Weapon

Drakira, Goddess of Vengeance, finds most of her followers amongst the Waywatcher Kindreds of the Pine Crags. A dour, focussed lot, the Nymraif often spend hours or days stalking their prey unawares before felling them with a single shot. Even they do not know the origins of the straight-bladed throwing knife named Incisor. It appears mysteriously in the belongings of a chosen waywatcher at midday, and vanishes once its task is complete. Its name is etched on the tang, and the name of its target is writ small on the blade. Until that target has been slain, the knife is impossible to misplace - it re-appears in the chosen stalker's hand should it ever lay aground more than thirty feet from her. The appearance of Incisor in a waywatcer's belongings is a matter of mixed reception. The chosen rarely survive their hunt, though those who do become the deadliest of waystalkers.

Incisor grants the bearer the Heroic Killing Blow special rule. It may be used as a hand weapon, including pairing it with a second hand weapon or shield. It can also be thrown with a range of 12" and a strength of 4. Because it always returns to the user's hand, it may be used as many times in battle as the wielder wishes. At the start of the game, the weilder must designate one non-war-machine model in the opposing army. Against that model, the user may reroll all attacks and wounds, and gains the Armour Piercing special rule. When that model is removed from play, Incisor vanishes and can no longer be used.
