Dryad Aspects (tree types)
I love this idea. Given the new book what do you think costs should be for dryad unit upgrades. Not to sure about this part. Obviously, only one aspect could be taken per unit.
Locust: 5+ AS (+3 ppm)
Oak: +1 S (+2 ppm)
Birch: +1 T (+2 ppm)
Pine: +1 to hit (+1 ppm)
Willow: -1 to hit (+1 ppm)

Re: Dryad Aspects (tree types)
I prefer to old version similar to the war dances with the ability to shift form during battle. Forgive my ignorance though, what type of tree is a locust tree?

Re: Dryad Aspects (tree types)
Locust is a hardwood tree. Black locust which I have a ton of on my property is known for its dark thick hard bark.

I love the idea, and would liketo see somthing like this in the book with the dryads converted or/and painted in the matching schemesmjHession wrote:I love this idea. We did have shapeshifting a few editions ago.
Let them shoot first, we'll shoot best.

Re: Dryad Aspects (tree types)
Although I don't know much about the different species of trees, I do know how to look at a unit and come up with ideas to make the unit either better at their job or shore up a weakness they suffer from. These ideas are all based on an infantry block that is supposed to tie units up in grinding close combats
So just off the top of my head, things that make them better at their job:
- give them a scaly skin save (already included here)
- +1 T (again, already included here)
- increase their ward save (not really a viable idea for a core unit in my opinion)
Things that shore up their weaknesses:
- +1 S to put them back into their old role before the new book
- giving them Always Strikes First to make them a decent choice against elven opponents
- giving them poisoned attacks so their naturally high base attacks a better chance of causing wounds
I'd say the first 2 from the first list and all 3 from the second list would make good aspects/different species of dryads.

Re: Dryad Aspects (tree types)
Dryads also used to have 2 wounds.

Re: Dryad Aspects (tree types)
They also used to be 35 points and when they where stronger there was way more strength and toughness in other units too.. current treekin are about what dryads where then.
Re: Dryad Aspects (tree types)
I think Branchwraithes should have had those Aspects as Loci so they could grant it to the unit a la Daemon heralds.
Paying only 2 PPM for Str is crazy cheap considering Beastmen players happily pay 206 points to do that to Gors.

Dryad Aspects (tree types)
This is something I was really hoping for with the new book that didn't happen. So here is my ideas. I would like some or all of these, but dryads should probably cost atleast 14 point per model with these...I think they'd be worth it.
Aspect of the Ironoak.
4 + scaly skin
Aspect of the shifting willow
+1 I, -1 to be hit
Aspect of the Black Briar
Poisoned attacks, thrown weapon (shooting thorns) attack 8" S: As user, Poisoned, quick to fire.
Aspect of the Bloodbirch
+1 Attack
Aspect of the Wytch Elm
MR(1) and 5+ ward save
Aspect of the sirens
Taking the form of lithe female seductresses
Units in base contact have -1ld and -1WS
I haven't included a +1 T aspect, as I think this is something they wouldn't need.
None of these addresses their biggest problem though. I think what keeps dryads out of lists is their lack of mobility.
So the most effective fix for them would be togive em back skirmish.

That item would be in every list.
