Wil's Autumn Wood Elf Army Update Handmainden + terrain

Post by WilcoH »

Hello,

I'm new to this great forum :) and wanted to show some of my work and a minor conversion I made for my glade guard captain.
I started warhammer 2 months ago again, did it when I was 12/13 years old, but missed it kind of :D . I only have the eternal guard and the glade guard yet. Next on the list are araloth and wild riders :D

Two real positives here. I love your original colour scheme and I think your painting is excellent. Good job, starting to make me wish I'd done something like that with mine!

Very good. I like it when somebody paints Woodies with subdued earth-tones and dulled metals. If you're a stealthy wood-running elf you probably wouldn't wear high gloss, candy apple reds, neon greens or psychedelic yellows and mirror chromed, metallic weapons and armor.... although when you have to fight in the open and the enemy knows you're coming - why not? So I can appreciate either sort of paint job. Bottom line is that I really appreciate a paint job and not a bucket of unpainted plastic dumped out on the table across from me. Good job.
So it's no longer the BRB, now it's the DERB. (Digital Edition Rule Book) I am all in for 9th Age.

Thanks guys.

@Bill

I thinknthe eternal guard is more likely to fight in open field so I gave them the brighter orange and red and shiny gold to give them a more elite-look. I see the glade guard (with the waywatchers ofcourse) more as the stealthy guys so wanted to keep them more dark.

I'll base the glade guards and make better pictures after the exam period :tear:

I like. good use of colours. They look like they'll fit nicely with a high elf army too.

Welcome back to the hobby. I did the exact same thing. Stopped the hobby when I was 13 and took it up 5 years ago. You certainly is starting up again with a immensely better painting skill than I did. Very nice color scheme and clean and proper paint job. A whole regiment of those will look stunning!

Hey Guys,

Have been doing some painting, but I am a slow painter and don't have very much time unfortunately so the eternal guard batallion isn't finished yet.
But wanted to give you an idea of what the batallion will look like. The photo's arent very nice, the light kinda of ruins some colours. I'll try to make some better pictures tomorrow or so.
Also bought the wild riders and araloth, will soon start with those 2 too.

The flash will wash out the highlights. But you can tell it's all very neatly done. Great work! Love the look of finished bases. Keep us posted!

Very nice and clean colours. Good job on those guys and nice use of the little spirit creature.

Make sure they line up! Moee than once I've ended with a cool unit of 20 converted guys that wont stand next too eachother.

Now I make sure they fit as a go and then put small numbers on the bases for remembering.

Good thing we have so many skirmishers in this army.

Yeah, thanks for warning. It is a puzzle already. But i will fix it with the last three guys.

Some wip with the wild riders and some slightly better pictures of the eternal guard.

What do you guys think of the deer? It's a little dark I know, I like it though. Its IRL lighter than on the photo. Tried to give it a lighter shade but couldn't really produce a nice natural highlight. Any suggestions???

All looks great. Really cool bases. I don't think the stag looks to dark. Too much detailing on the steeds or other mounts takes focus off the rider which, in most cases, is the important part of the model. A nice vibrant red or orange on the saddle will be enough for the steed IMO.

Ok, Thanks. That's what I think too. But do you have any suggestions/tips on highlighting scorched brown in a very natural way? Not working up to dark flesh or bestial brown or something but just scorched brown, but then a bit lighter :P Maybe paint from another brand?

I use this method for highlighting schorched brown( rhinox hide is the new equivalent):

Base: Schorched brown
Layer1: 3:1 schorched brown and Khorne red

Then I add more red to the mix, in two consecutive layers. Then I start mixing in Orange.

The final highlight is a color very similar to XV88.

Remember schorced brown is a very red brown
Just experiment and you'll see.

@hutobega, thanks! It's really easy to do. I just use wood. Went on a sunny day to the forest and collected a box of tree bark. And then just use your creativity ;D

@baardah. Thanks I'll try it and experiment a little bit around :)

Here is a cool rock base in progress my brother is making for his dark elves.

Beautiful! Only thing with antlers I would say you could try just a light brown wash to make them not so bright if you want that? but they look fine the way they are! I wish I could paint so nicely! lots more practice to be had!

Finished Araloth. Fun model to paint :D

@Hutobega I've painted the antlers of araloth a bit darker and works nicely i'll think i'm gonna do that on the antlers of the steeds too. ( at the picture it still looks light because of the light :P)

@Tuladin, it isn't cork. It's just tree bark. Collected it in the forest :P

@Wendol Thanks!
