To go Autumn or Modryn? Pic heavy

Post by Syphilis »

Well I started to get into the Wood Elves a month before the release so I could pick up the old battalion and see how it played. Here is my army so far:
Image
I started to try match my Daemons but they looked too un tree like.

Image
Image
Then I made it more green!

Image
but I couldn't get my glade guard looking right.

Image
she looked better in Autumn

Image
So my trees turned Autumn

Image

Image

Image
Some elves died and turned into these treekin...I obviously still have no direction!

Image
But I was enjoying the Autumn Dryad theme.

So I haven't painted that much of the army in 2 months and now with the new book I was thinking of making the army darker...more Modryn like
Image
Image

This is where I am sort of stuck. I want a darker army but I don't think my Deepwood scouts are looking right yet. So what do you think...orange or Modryn ish?

That's a great way to "see" where to put the glow effect though. Line up your models, take a picture with the light under them, paint what you see on the picture.

I might give this a try!

Haha hilarious. I did not think of it that way. My phone ran out of batteries so it couldn't flash so I put a lamp underneath. But that is a freaking good idea to make it scary!

Having said that. . Do any of you guys know how this can be done convincingly? You would run the risk of having blue Dryads.

This effect is called object source lighting. You'll find a lot of tutorials if you google object source lighting tutorial or osl tutorial.
Some involve an airbrush, but you'll also find some that don't.
no risK, no fun

So my treeman finally came in the mail today. Got a bit excited and didn't read all the instructions and mixed and matched the ancient with durthu bits. Voila a weird dynamic ish pose. I had to re jig he's left arm. Oh and I couldn't bring myself to give a treeman a weapon at first. How unfluffy right. ... But it must have been the glue in the air. That spear is freaking awesome.

It's kind of annoying the ancient isn't really a combat machine.... This guy can easily look like the general for the army.
Oh and those small horses around him are my converted Dryad centaurs as the sisters (transformations) of thorns.

Those 'dryad centaurs' are stunning! and a brilliant idea if you are going tree heavy!

Your treeman looks set to be an awesome centrepiece, very dynamic and I love the spear stave.

The Avenging Woods

Post by Syphilis »

So..it has been a while.

I have regained some motivation with a new 2000pnt list that includes the treeman as the centre piece general.

Treeman Ancient

Beast Singer

Captain BSB on steed

15 dryads

10 Trueflight/ hagbane guards

10 Trueflight/ hagbane guards

6 Treekin

5 Wild "Centaurs"

5 Wild "Centaurs"

5 Thorn "Centaurs"

Treeman

Image
My completed 15 Dryads (I know it took ages for such a small wood unit) and behind is the Treeman Ancient with its first coat and a half!

Image
My second Treeman...I couldn't help but modify the pose a little. This one is just walking along looking angry.

Image
My Wood Elf Captain BSB made into a centaur.

Well that's it for now. Now new goal is to complete painting that treeman ancient like my Dryads.

Some previous conversions of waywatechers. I may add these to my glade guards if I don't want to use them as Way watchers.

Died Brocoli tree Waywatchers. Keeping the army cheap money wise, they are jsut converted glade guards.

Durthu with beard looks great, and centaurs alike. Go on with autumn theme, dryads are awesome.

Here is my Treeman..possibly an ancient! Now to work on my other wood elf projects... some elves or a dryad horde. I might absorb my treekin as unit fillers in a dryad horde as I can't seem to make them work in my games...grrrr!
