Dark forms move through branches!

Hi there!

You should have seen this coming in previous post, so without further ado, it is time to announce my new Warhammer army project: the Wood Elves. I know that Asrai are not to competetive and their army book is quite old but I find the Wood Elves to be one of the most beautiful armies out there.

Today I got my hands on the Warhammer Wood Elves Battalion boxed set and I cannot wait to start assembling the units!..

Capricious and cruel..

Just as I've promised, here is the first of my Dryads - a Branchwraith conversion and a painting Dryads tutorial. For my army, I've chosen the autumn theme as it is more colorful and gives me more room as far as painting is concerned. As you can clearly see, this Dryads model is also a conversion. I dislike the Wood Elves Branchwraith / Drycha model, so I've decided to make my own and I am quite happy with the results..

It was a busy weekend, so I wasn't able to do more than those four, but I really had fun painting Dryads! I always thought that Waywatchers were the most beautiful Wood Elves unit, but now I am not so certain! There are so many ways you can assemble them and painting Dryads is very rewarding!

The trees are alive! part.2

Done, done and done! The Fantasy Hammer is pleased to announce my first finished Warhammer Wood Elves unit and a small tutorial! I would have never thought that painting Dryads is so challenging! It took me more than an hour for each of the Dryads to paint, not counting those little Sprites I was so eager to put inside the unit. However, this whole Dryads unit assembled together tells me it was really worth my time!

I think that my Branchwraith conversion stands out from the Dryads unit, but as far as conversions are concerned, I admit that I hunger for more! The addition of Sprites throughout the Dryads made the unit more colorful, but also degraded my Branchwraith to "only" a Branch Nymph look. I have a nice idead to make her even more hero like model, so please, be ready for the Branchwraith update sometime soon!..

Re: The Fantasy Hammer painting, modelling Forest

Fairy Forest..
ImageImage
Today I present you my homemade Warhammer Wood Elves forest I finished yesterday and a detailed scenery and painting tutorial for all Wood Elves generals, who won't leave their homes without the free forest the army book allows!

Yeah, I know that there is only one tree, but hey! Who told you, that to represent a wood you need many trees? =) I admit, my goal was to make a 6" in diameter base with 3 tress on it, just like in Cital Wood, but I used too much wire on the first tree and decided to make it a huge loner! It was easy, it was cheap and most importantly, it looks different. Now, my Dryads have a new place to stand on =)..

To Puszkin: I'm glad you like my blog and I hope you like my new Glade Guard. I enjoyed your blog too
To Billthesurly: Thanx! As far as conversions are concerned, I'm planning something big around New Year's Eve, so stay tuned! Oh and ekhmmm, I'm sorry I replied so late

A hail of deadly arrows..
ImageImage
I was very busy lately, so working on my Wood Elves Glade Guard unit goes slower than I've anticipated, but I've managed to paint a test model and assemble 10 more Glade Guard and undercoat them. I'm still unsure whether those colors are ok, but an early, sunny autumn (in Poland we call it the "Golden Polish Autumn") is my pick and I hope that you like it! And Oh, I know that her hair is blue, but this is a secret I will reveal in one of my stories someday =)..

I think that's a wonderful model. It has a nice warm sunny look to it and crisp and nicly blended colours.

If you have time please show us the other side of the mini also.

Re: The Fantasy Hammer painting, modelling Youtube videos

Post by The Fantasy Hammer »

Happy New Year with 2 new tutorials!

Happy New Year everyone!
For me, last year was full of great surprises and I wish all of you the same this New Year!

I have just found out that there is a Wet Palette Tutorial Leaf article by godswearhats (http://www.asrai.org/leaf/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=32) and it may seem that I'm repeating his great work, :o but I wasn't aware of it while making my first video and I hope you won't mind me presenting my take on how to make a wet palette video tutorials here! The first video is based on the same idea the godswearhats had, but the second one is fortunately quite of a different kind

So, without further ado..

Today, I'm glad to present you my first 2 Youtube video tutorials and I hope you like them! The wet palette is really a helpful thing and I think that those tutorials will allow you to get on a whole new level with your painting =)

The first time I heard about wet palette, I was curious but also thought it won't make my painting any better. Now I'm almost unable to paint without it! In my environment it is quite hard to be able to paint continuously without someone/something interrupting. Leaving paints I've just mixed into perfect consistency even for a few minutes resulted in many curses going through my teeth.. Now, using my homemade wet palettes, it is absolutely no problem to leave my paintjob for even a day! Moreover, it is also easier to dilute my paints.

One of my friends has asked me to make a video tutorial about making your own wet palette and I decided to make 2 videos. The first one is about a very simple wet palette, the second one is an upgraded version. I hope you like my videos! Please, feel free to comment here or on my Youtube channel, I really appreciate it! Re: The Fantasy Hammer painting and modelling Wild Riders

Post by The Fantasy Hammer »

The Wild Hunt begins..
Image
Today is a Wild Hunt day and I'm happy to show you my Wood Elves Wild Riders conversion test model. I've decided to take a break from painting Glade Guard and to make a Wild Riders conversion.

Here is a quick conversion tutorial: I've picked a Glade Riders sprue, together with some leftover Dryads bits, an ornate Glade Guard cloak, a hooded head and an armless torso. I've resculpted the torso (I've used a woman torso, but as far as I know Wild Riders are men, therefore I had to remove some protruding parts.. please, do forgive me for doing that =)). Attaching the arms was easy (remember that Wild Riders have spears, so use a Dryads arm looking like a spear), but the cloak was much harder to do..

The first 4 Warhammer Wood Elves Glade Guard are finished and as you can see they are more colorfully painted than the Glade Guard test model. Click here for a comparison: http://thefantasyhammer.blogspot.com/20 ... part1.html

I'm not too pleased with those pictures, because in reality they look much better. Maybe you have some good tips, to improve my photos? ..

The hardest part of painting Phoenicia is done! Painting skin, especially woman skin, is in my opinion very challenging and painting face with eyes and lips is even harder. I can't say if this paintjob is good enough for me, because this is the very first detailed woman model I have ever painted! If you have any comments or tips about painting Phoenicia's skin or to improve my skills, I'm all ears =)

Anyway, here is the 3rd part of my step by step painting Guild of Harmony Phoenicia tutorial. Picture heavy this time =)

I have finished painting Phoenicia's hair and I'm really proud of them! Maybe there is not too much blending etc., but I think I've managed to make them look very vivid. This is a very delicate miniature, therefore it's hard to make her look powerful and magical, but I still have some aces up my sleeve. =)

A hail of deadly arrows.. (360 SPIN)

Today I present you the first part of my Display entry for Bananalicious contest on Massive Voodoo. I learned about it only two weeks earlier and since I had only so little time to sign in with finished miniatures (the contest ended during the 15th of February), I didn't know whether I should participate in it at all. In the end, I've managed to enter Fantasy and Diorama categories. For Fantasy, I've chosen 5 miniatures and the first one I'm presenting you today.

This Glade Guard was given just some additional highlights, a few fixes and a realistic bow. I didn't have time for anything spectacular, but I'm quite shocked how a simple bowstring and an arrow conversion can improve the overall look of Glade Guard.

Click below for my first 360° spin photo. I hope you like it! =)
