Thanks a lot Rab - as for the face, as promised, I've put together a short tutorial on painting the face. The photos aren't too clever I'm afraid and I'm yet to try the new GW paint range so my palette is still using old paints but hopefully some people will find it helpful. I have used the GW conversion chart for paints to put the new colours in brackets.
The model was sprayed skull white. The face has a single watered down coat of Tallarn Flesh (Cadian Fleshtone).
I then give the face a single layer of watered down Elf Flesh (Kislev Flesh).
Two washes of Ogryn Flesh (Reikland Fleshshade).
I then highlight with watered down Elf Flesh (Kislev Flesh) and Skull White (White Scar) mixture. This starts of as 3:1 Elf Flesh to Skull White and ends up almost pure white (but watered down). This is the stage that really takes the time and effort. The key is knowing what to highlight: cheekbones, jaw line, brow and nose. This should contrast with the darker shades in the recesses of the eye sockets, hair line and checks (i think elves should have elegant, almost gaunt checks - not ruddy 'friar tuck' style chops). The teeth have been touched white as well.
That is the face complete. The eyes are painted Skull White first, then Scorched Brown (Rhinox Hide), then Chaos Black (Abaddon Black). This model has the easiest eyes to paint so my efforts with the Glade Guard are not always this successful!
