thought id post up some pics of the current models im working on - wardancers and an alter noble - I use reasonably strong highlights to avoid a flat finish on the skin - its a technique ive used for all my recent warhammer armies including my dryads that i posted a while ago

BEAutiful!!! only..... a bit dark........ how did u do that my models realy suck comparet to that :P but i'm not the best painter but i love to have some tips:)) i shal post some pics later............ but ur models look great only a bit to dark.. meybe if there fully painted it wil be different....

IMO the shadows are quite dark for elf skin, but it is really beautiful. How did you paint it?

it is painted nicely, but none has skin that ranges from that dark to that light...

explescially people who get very little sunlight and have pale skin to start

It's an awesome technique and your skin looks very spectacular. I don't think it fits elves though. It would look better if it was done on marauders or orcs or something like that.
But great job nontheless!

Thanks for the feed back its much lighter than it looks in the picture - poor light when I took pic - Also I tend to go with a darker skin as it suits the technique I use - When I paint the rest of the model it won't seem as dark.

Also with my autumn theme I felt that a slightly darker look would suit them - almost as if the elves change skin colour with the seasons - pale/white in the winter and gradually going from a fresh elf skin in the spring to a tanned flesh in the autumn. ^_^

I think it looks very good. It does look a little haggard, and drawn, but I think it does suit WE, especially Autumnal ones very well.

But you're now going to have to be pretty careful painting the rest of the models!

Very nice though - it gets the lean meanness of Wardancers across. I'd like to see more...

painted as follows

Undercoated black - whole model dry brushed scorched brown (two reasons helps pick out the details a little more and paint goes on smoother)

1. Next paint skin with a watery layer of bestial brown.
2. Paint skin tanned flesh leaving recesses (eyes various points on the arms legs etc) unpainted.
3. Brown ink wash (very watered down wash maybe 75% water, 25% ink)
4. Tanned flesh again painting over the same areas as before the wash.
5. Highlight 75% tanned 25% bleached
6. Highlight 50% tanned 50% bleached
7. Highlight 25% tanned 75% bleached.

Each successive highlight should cover less and less of the skin.

A few tips - I use 000 sized brush, all the paints are premixed in pots for consistency and watered down (60% paint 40% water) and most important point of all i take my time and never try and rush a paint job.

That's wonderful painting, but like everyone said, it's a bit dark. But there's good tone in the skin.

i photoshoped the pic to show you what it actually looks like in RL as original pics were too dark - ill have the skin for the whole unit finished tonight and then ill work on the rest of the models

got bored and tried out this technique on an unpainted glade guard and I must say it looks amazing and finnaly something that brings out the detail on those PLASTIC faces of doom. Well done and nice pics

new pic for you more wardancers now i did NOT sculpt these guys bought them from ebay from the polish guys MAS - (great scupltors if a little pricey ill post a better pic later poor light here i had to photoshop a lot of brightness and contrast in so they look a little washed out front row slightly out of focus..

Totaly awesome, I think the dark really fits the elven nature, the hunting force, killing everbody!!!

I can't believe you stayed inside the lines, if I was painting skin only I'd go over everything else and paint over it later on haha! Looks great (When the colours are in place it'll look impressive!)

That TRULY is a beautiful piece of work!!
I really like that dark tone on Wood Elves since they are kind of
unpredictable. Lovely! I'll try that technique.

Wow, those Wardancers are fantastic, but it would be nice if they weren't on such odd-looking logs. And I do believe Scribor used Druchii Warrior Champion Swords for the Wardancers. Hmm.. well, I like the poses anyway!
