Can you have both spear and Shield in close combat?

Yes. You get the +1 AS from the Shield, but you do not get a parry save.

I know this is completely unrelated to the post but when I think of wood elves and shields I imagine either the celtic elongated hexagon shield or the norman teardrop shield

The celtic shield might be suitably distinctive from other races and fit the look. Worth some modelling maybe

i already modelled it onto my GR champion and it looks preety good though during the fix it sort of lost the edges so it looks circular-ish
