Frostgrave & Otherworld Fantasy Skirmish

Post by Monkey »

I haven't seen any mention of either of these games over here....

I was pretty disappointed by the whole AoS offering and the end of WFB as we know it. I've tried to be posative and use this oppertuninty to try other things, and I have found that there is a real wealth of good stuff out there. Current favourites are Frostgrave and Otherworld Fantasy Skirmish, and as these are still fairly new and small scale offerings I've quite happy to give them both a shameless plug to try and encourage others to take a look too. They are both skirmish games, so if you are dead set on a mass battle, then they won't be what you want, but if you're after a good fun game without too much effort (and a lot less stuff to carry around) they could be right up your street.

Frostgrave - Your wizard and his gang of henchmen (you can easily find a dwarf wizard...) venture into the ruins of a frozen city in search of treasure. There is an expansion (Thaw of the Lich Lord) due in November and another one next year.

Otherworld Fantasy Skirmish - This allows you to take a real step back in time and fight skirmishes inspired by the classic Dungeons and Dragons games. So you can lead a band of heroic adventurers in an assault on and undead infested dungeons, or the minions of a Beholder in an attack on an isolated village. It looks really cool, especially for the older gamer, (like me) it's a real throw back to everything that got me into fantasy wargaming in the first place. I really hope they produce some expansions for it.

A quick google will bring up lots or reviews. I'm interested to find out what other people think of these games too.

Cool suggestions Monkey, I have been in the mood for a game like these. I found some reviews for Frostgrave - which has a very Mordheim vibe - but I was having trouble finding more specifics on Otherworld. Could you tell me more about it? I got the impression it would play like a gridless D&D.

I think I'll be easily persuaded to pick one of these up!

Been reading a little about these games, and I must say that frost grave really appeals to me... Imagine all the war bands I could paint up.... Will buy the rule book to check it out...

That item would be in every list.

That item is a horse...
