Storm of Magic, incoming

(hope this is in the correct forum/thread ?? thingy  )

So anyone else seen the incoming artical on the GW web site, Storm of Magic, sounds alot differant than what was done before with there being monsters and stuff coming out for it as well as what i presume will be a box with all the magic cards in it. So will we be able to summon masive monsters from the deep i wonder or bigger dragons or flocks of giant sheep mmmm who knows ??

I tryed the Warseer forum early to see if there was any decent rumor threads but it looks like they forgot to pay the bills or something this month.

Anyone have any juicy gossip on the subject ?

Yeah, I am curious about it too. Is it a campaign sort of thing like Storm of Chaos? Or is it more like a new set of extra rules? It sounded like more of the latter to me. I have always wondered why they hadn't released Summoners, or at least some spells like that. Or maybe they will be more like neutral monsters that just roam the battlefield killing everyone. Kinda like a different type of scenery.

It will be like a 40k expansion.

New rules and models for a variant way to play.

looks like more potent wizards, even wilder magic phases, more random terrain to eat your armies, and potentially mercenary monsters to stuff into your lists.

should be fun! now i have to convince the people i play with, who hate mysterious terrain, to even play with the rules...

Primarily what I'm seeing, and most interested in, boils down to:

1. New magic, possibly new magic items.
2. New wizard models (will they bother with a WE model, I wonder?)
3. New scenery
4. New monster models to put on the table: I bet you we'll get models for the Lore of Beasts' big tranformation spell!

Can't wait to see it!

If the Wood Elf AB is close-ish they will probably wait till then to give us new Casters. If it is a long way off then we might get lucky and get a new model or two (I am so hoping for a Plastic Spellweaver Kit, Nobles too?), but likely any new models for us with this thing will be in a later phase.

I am not so familiar with the 40k expansions, but they are just mostly additional rules? Sort of like the old General's Compendium?

Well, there will be new models thats for sure. I wonder if it will be like the old warhammer battle magic boxed set, that would mean all the races' would have their decks done even before their army book is re-released, cool, then we could finally have that rumour of there being a new race (crab people/fishmen or whatever) cleared up, plus everyone singing off the same song sheet with all the old lores of whatever gone replaced with shinny new spells :D

Hope this dosn't slow down the turn around of army books ! Although they (GW) did say that they have had some chick locked up in some dungon for the past 2 years working on the project, so fingers still crossed for a new year rumour about the Wood Elves Army Book :smoke:

This Saturday, a friend pointed out that there is a picture of the Arachnorok (sp?) model in the 8th Ed. AB, which came out several months before the release of the model did.

There's a blimp for the dwarfs as well that I haven't seen.

Something tells me that GW is stringing the products along. I wouldn't be surprised if they already have models, and maybe even content, for us. When said materials would be released is another matter...

[Edit] There's a picture of a dwarf blimp in the book, and I've yet to see a model released for it.

That's not an Arachnarok - it's actually a 3-up of a Spider Rider model, with a scratch-built howdah. No doubt it provided inspiration for the Arachnarok, but it is not an actual Arachnarok model.

It amazes me that GW thinks this is the time to release an expansion when there is some armies, like us WE, that still have 6th edition army books. New model by this Trish sounds good though, but still.....stupid to waste time with this expansion BS when they have more pressing things to doo.

GW can multi-task. I mean, they are releasing a new book almost every month now. Wood Elves will get there day eventually.

They also have that Dwarf Blimp picture somewhere on the site... I think I saw it under the "Getting Started" tab for Warhammer, it was under something like that anyway (in the background of course). I thought it might just be some custom scenery though.

And I hope fish people do exist in Warhammer, at least in the background somewhere... I can't imagine them as an army though. I mean, they have at least half the world all to themselves, why would they want all of that above ground space anyway?

From a Wood Elf perspective, I agree. We've been sitting waiting patiently for a new army book for quite some time!

From a "bigger picture" perspective though, an expansion is probably a good move. After IoB and the rulebook last summer got everyone interested in 8th Edition, a summer expansion this year is going to have the same sort of mass appeal that applies across races - it's 'something for everyone', so is designed to appeal to the masses rather than cater to a particular group of players of a certain army like army books do. It's an attempt to pique the interest of players in the same way as a new rulebook piques the interest of Warhammer players in general, which can't be a bad thing really.

That makes sense. I mean, I think almost everyone oggles and drools over the minis they release for every army book, but more often than not if you don't collect that army you aren't going to buy them.

The idea of an expansion is good in general, its just the timing I disagree on. The new armybooks spurs interest in everyone since you have to make adjsutments in every army to counter new treaths from one army. 1 new armybook changes the Metagame. Its just so dishartening to struggle over two editions, with overprized troops.
One good thing can come from this though. They might revamp the Lore of Athel Loren with this expansion...other than that i think we'll struggle even more against an even heavier magic phase, being one of the more softer armies when it comes to magic.

Now these are just my initial thoughts. It might change as we get to know more, but right now i'm just shivvering from the thought of having "cataclysmic" spells cast upon my puny little overprized army

I must say I am not exited by more destructive magic. I am into the game for the combat between cool fantasy races, like elves and so on, but not to blast the [censored] out of the others armies with my mages alone. That is not fun. More suitable for magic the gathering.

I will not go for this one, I think, until I hear about it from others. Still have to buy the new O&G book!

I would imagine that GW won't introduce a bunch of Nuclear bomb size spells, at least not with some serious draw backs, it would really hurt the game and send it back several editions and make it all about characters and the army is just a meat shield for those characters.

Lets hope all the big monsters (recently O&G and TK) and uber-spells are shifted towards the Apocalype-style WHF and let 'normal' WHF be again about strategy and not about 'the one with the most kitted characters or warmachines wins' anymore. I am not going to spend dollars and dollars on the bigger the better...

Speaking of which has anyone fought against the Arachnarok yet? Is it as scary and as "overpowered" as it looks?

So after gleaning some information from warseer I am assuming the following:

GW is releasing a bit of terrain to go with this (talk of the magical vortexes, etc) I would assume terrain that looks like magic has affected it.

GW is releasing several monster kits. Rumours are Chimera, Dragon, Manticore, Cockatrice

Gw is releasing some mages for armies (likely missing ones from recent books such as Slugtongue, Festus, Villitch,

This could be viewed as "Fantasy Apocalypse" where you just bring a massive army with a bunch of big monsters and duke it out.

Sadly, that's excactly what I expect

Hmm, I hope they are at least a little bit intelligent and know that the people who spend the most money on their products are their dedicated fans who have been here awhile and that if they drive them away then there could be trouble.
popisdead wrote: GW is releasing several monster kits. Rumours are ... Cockatrice
Ooo, I hope the Cockatrice looks just like this little fella: http://images.wikia.com/finalfantasy/im ... trices.jpg X3 I would love him foreva and eva....

Waywatchers updated to killing blow and sniper for the win :)

What would be cool is if a wizard who has made this pact with the big crazy monster dies then the monster goes berserk randomly stampeding through his lines :)

From (my own) Wood Elf player perspective, I disagree. I love my current AB. I am doing very well with WE as they are now in 8th. They are fun. They are strong. They are not forgiving, but they allows you to get the control over the game no other army have. I love it.
And I am damn scared about new AB, who may (or may not, but who can guarantee this?) destroy this unique thing WE army have in order to make it "up-to-date" and "more open to new players" and "more copetitive", or because any another "blah blah blah" reason...
