Re: DE Spearhead- At last!
What can I say, they kinda deserve it :P
DE deserves all the good item's they can get their long, slender fingers on, they've suffered way to much in 6th Ed.
Still, regenation seems like beeing the new thing in the new armies, along with ASF
And with that, comes new ways to counter it.

Re: DE Spearhead- At last!
new rumors about equiptment wrote: Gifts of Khaine:
As has been mentioned previously, Assassins can now take up to 75pts from the Gifts of Khaine list.
Witch Elf Hags can take up to 25pts from the Gifts of Khaine list.
Like now, Gifts can be taken multiple times in an army with the exception of two which are noted to follow the special rules for magic items:- For example one per army; magic weapons cannot make poisoned attacks; etc.
These two items are:
Venom Sword - 75pts
Exactly the same as it is now (but is no longer available as a Magic weapon).
Cloak [Name not remembered] - 30pts
Contains a bound spell Steed of Shadows from the Lore of Shadows. Power Level 3.
The rest of the Gifts of Khaine are similar to the current list, but changes and additions I will list below:
Shuriken [Name not remembered] - 30pts
Gives the bearer ranged attacks with the following profile; Thrown 8" range, Strength As user +1, 3x Multiple shots.
Rune of Khaine - 25pts
Gives the model +D3 attacks each round of combat.
Black Lotus - 15pts
Allows the model to re-roll 1s rolled to wound
Dark Venom - 10prs
If the model kills an opponent in a challenge, all wounds inflicted are doubled for combat resolution.
N.B. Manbane (same as current), Black Lotus and Dark Venom replace the models base Poisoned Attacks.
Magic Banners:
Banner of Nagarythe - 125pts
Same as in 6th Edition, but points cost reduced slightly.
Hydra Banner - 80pts
Same as in 6th Edition.
Dread Banner - 40pts
Same as in 6th Edition, but points cost reduced.
Standard of Slaughter
Same as in 6th Edition, though I think it is no longer only on the first charge.
ASF Banner [Name not remembered] - 25pts
Grants the unit the Always Strike First rule
AP Banner [Name not remembered] - 20pts
Gives the unit the Armour Piercing special rule
Please remember that this list is not conclusive as there were at least 3 more banners whose exact effects I cannot remember. All of the old Temple of Khaine items also made it across in the transition, with the changes noted above.

Re: DE Spearhead- At last!
I was able to read the new book at games day and can confirm that most of the rumors are true. This is going to be one sick, new army. Lots and lots of combos. If anyone has any questions I'll do my best to answer.

Dragons are mounts to Dreadlord and Supreme Sorceress.Tethlis wrote:Dragons?

Statline - standart for dragon. Breath: S4 and -3 LD test or can't charge next turn (if casualities).
There are also nasty magic items suited for dragonriders (inverse ward, regeneration armor, lance with KB, lance +3S and so on) - very cheap, if compare to our (weaker) analogs.
WE regen light armor (50 p) vs DE regen heavy armor (35)
WE spear with KB (30 p) vs DE lance with KB (25 p).

Re: DE Spearhead- At last!
Yeah. Malekith is gonna be a beast on his new Black Dragon, and best of all he only takes up one Lord slot. Dragon Malekith is gonna run you 900+pts though, however we've the option to either mount him on a cold one (20ish pts) or a 2+ CoC!! (110pts) this is probably the best bang fer yer buck. Lots of conversion possibilities too. The Dragon's breath weapon is awesome. If you can combine it with the Lore of Death spell that lowers Ld. it could be devastating.

Re: DE Spearhead- At last!
I can't wait for the Dark Elves to be re-released so the 1 main player and 2 minor players at our club will actually stand a fighting chance now. The main player is pretty good so maybe with this revision there should be some good games between me and him.
It is good to see that all the elven armies are strong now.

yes it is, and I might have to start any army of each one, oh well, we all must make sacrifices for our hobby, eh? Seriously, the new DE look cool, and it'll be good if I get them, as one of my friends plays HE, very fluffy. And i can't just keep beating him with wood elves, he'll get cross at the tricksy treehuggers.

Re: DE Spearhead- At last!
Many thanks for the information on Malekith. I'm not so sure about mounting him on a Cold One or in a chariot, given the threat that Stupidity represents. Still, Leadership 10 goes a long way.
Wow, quite exciting. There sounds like a lot of great options for Dark Elves, and many different ways to run the army with success. I consider that a key feature of a good armybook.
Hmmm... What Lord Choice to take...

Cold One Malekith has a 2+ armoursave, thats basically the one and only reason for putting him on a Cold One.

Re: DE Spearhead- At last!
Yeah, but he has a 2+/4+ ward and can only ever take one wound at a time. Plus he has a magic shield that has MR(2) and if you dispell anything cast at him, the caster takes a strength 6 hit per die used!! Devastating. Way better than Tyrion, and definitely better than anything the WEs have to put forth. Also, if you're worried about stupidity, take Malus along with, as Spite make cold ones in his unit not stupid (...un-stupid? ...smart? ...whatever). He still should be reserved for big games, but at least he's viable at 3000pts now.

Ah okay, getting caught up on the rumor threads of at Druchii.net. I usually don't pay much attention to special characters as I'm not a fan of them, but the Dark Elf ones appear to really enhance the effectiveness of their units. I may have to invest in them after all.

Re: DE Spearhead- At last!
What?Yeah, but he has a 2+/4+
No, he only has a 2+ ward vs mundane attacks.
While having MR2, the only thing that protects him against magical attacks is his 4+ armoursave. (magic heavy armour + magic shield).
In 6th Ed. he only had a 5+ Armoursave (no shield).

True, though I'd rather be giving Killing Blow to Witch Elves or +1 Attack to Black GuardFaulkynn Grom wrote:You could always 5+ him with the cauldron.
Any news on a new Cauldron model? Or should I get busy converting the old one into a portable version?

Resurrect the old-old wheeled one. I also like the idea of converting one from Corpse Cart bits.

No new model. All new models will be in the spearhead. That's it. I'm thinking of making mine out of Skragg the Slaughterer.Tethlis wrote:Any news on a new Cauldron model? Or should I get busy converting the old one into a portable version?
I was also considering this approach. Maybe for my "other" cauldron...ArchMagosAlchemys wrote:Resurrect the old-old wheeled one. I also like the idea of converting one from Corpse Cart bits.

I suppose that makes sense. But I would have at least thought they would put maybe a unit of Spearmen in, if just for army building. But, oh well. It's my friend who's buying it, not me.
