Hello, I've just started collecting a wood elf army and planning what to buy and paint first for 1000 points.
I'm going to be fighting a friend who recently started as Orcs n goblins (I know for a fact that a large part of the army will be goblins)

I'll list the army and maybe you could tell me if its any good or where I could improve it:) Also would be good if you could give me a hand in relation to greenskins.

Okay:

Hero

Wood Elf Noble - 75
Waywatcher Kindred -35
Hail of Doom Arrow - 30

Total: 140

Core Units

2x Units of 10 Glade guard - 240
2 x Units of 10 Dyrads + Champions - 264
5 Glade Riders + Musician - 129

Special Units

3 Warhawk Riders + Champion - 100

Rare Units

5 Waywatchers + champ - 128

Total: 1001 (i think)

1. Waywatcher Kindreds are very hard to pull off, they have no armor save (and cannot due to being unable to wear armor) and at T3 they are extremely squishy, it's nice to have the HODA so close on turn 1 but there is plenty of time to unleash it and not put 140 points so close to the opponent. Don't get me wrong, it's a great character and I taken that build myself.

2. Dryads, with proper use and their natural durability you won't need a unit of 10. Champions are not usually necessary - a unit of 8 Dryads are enough. Give combat units a champion towards the end of building if you have the points left over.

3. 3 Warhawk Riders + Champion would be 140 points, not 100.

4. Going back to #2 champions in shooting units are unnecessary as WW are usually hitting on 2+ anyway, the extra points for the extra BS point would be wasted.

Those being said, it's a very standard list and offers a wide variety of options - very similar to the list I ran today (but with the addition of Wardancers). As it lacks any of the WE elite heavy hitters (wardancers/wild riders) you will need to even more carefully coordinate charges and focus fire on your opponent.

Yeah good advice for now. Take out the Warhawk champ, -4 dryads and 2nymphs. Now you have some spare points to give your noble the wildfire blades or merciws locus and additional hand weapon. But i would keep the WW champ just in case as your hero will be going in there. Also i think an eagle noble with HoDA would be a better choice simply because he has some hitting power on the charge. But having a WW kindred could quickly mess up any war machines or light cav in first few turns.

I cant think of any other help i could give you.

Otherwise a nice list. Have fun trying it out

Another reason for dropping the warhawk riders champion. They make great warmachine and character hunters. Especially in small point games, where you won't find the best of an opponents magic items on the field. Armies like O/G will definitely have both casters and warhmachines- being able to charge in at 20 inches and focus your attacks against a single gobo shaman and not have to deal with challenges is great. Ranks and Banner will make you lose combat anyway, but that's what hit and run is for.

With a champion he could issue a challenge and you end up killing a champion; reducing the 4ws s4 attacks into 2 against the character you wanted.

Could you please remove the specific point cost of items from your post, it violates GW copyright,

As far as the army goes:

Hero

Wood Elf Noble - 75
Waywatcher Kindred -35
Hail of Doom Arrow - 30

Total: 140

Not my choice for a hero at all, but give it a go and see if it works for you.

Core Units

2x Units of 10 Glade guard - 240
Fine
2 x Units of 10 Dyrads + Champions - 264
Reconfigure to 3 x 8, no champion for 288 + 24 points
5 Glade Riders + Musician - 129
Fine

Special Units

3 Warhawk Riders + Champion - 100
1 x 3 WHR = 120 (no champion) + 20 points

Rare Units

5 Waywatchers + champ - 128
1 x 5 WW (no champ) 120 - 8 points, although useful if you keep the WW Noble.

140
240
288
129
120
120

1037. Got to cut 37 points

I would be tempted to replace the 5 WW with 5 GG Scout at 85. Thats 35 points and would put you at 1002. I'd re-kit the Noble on a steed with a decent assortment of kit.

Total: 1001 (i think)
