Possible New Wood Elf Art

Post by Rogue Sun »

Hey everyone, hadn't seen this posted yet. Originally saw it over on Ulthuan and no one has seen to comment on it. Read the short article and the scroll down half way for the pics. May be a small insight on some possible new models.

Wow! Nice catch! Interesting they asked for stag riders with helmets.

Well now that's interesting. If those aren't "Stag Cavalry" I'll eat my keyboard. I see Orion/Kernous is prominant. I also see elves with bows, Dryads and a Treeman. I don't see any spites flitting about but this also does not look like a finished work. No leaves for one thing. It would be easy to add spites in later. I also don't see anything that looks like an eternal guard but then I don't think I've ever seen an Eternal Guard figure on a box painting. Nothing that looks like a Wardancer either.

This must be new Wood Elf art because why would a current Wood Elf player commission a piece showing Multiple (5+) Stag riders? Dosen't make sense for it to be anything else.
So it's no longer the BRB, now it's the DERB. (Digital Edition Rule Book) I am all in for 9th Age.

There's possibility that it's for a new Black Library book, but it really feels like an inside cover spread to me. I've sorta suspected wild riders would become stag riders, the only question is if they'll be monstrous cav or not.

Judging by the pics, I'd be banking on a new kit...

I really like the helmets. They look fantastic.

I would love to bet on stags.

That's a lot of Stags. This is the first piece of evidence I've seen that actually seems legit :-)

Could the, with helmut/no helmut art mean armor options for our units?

Seems like a possible dual kit would work. Perhaps stag and horse heads for alternate mount builds, along with different rider heads? A dual kit that could build wild and stag riders would rock.

The helmets are just because the Priests of Kurnous in the books wear them (I suspect)

Yeah, that was my thinking. Probably book related or perhaps an upgrade unit for when Orion is on the field.

I like the idea of a dual kit like the one Tater mentioned, that seems very useful. I also notice there are no bolt throwers or war machines, which in my opinion is a good thing.

Go to that artist's main website page here:

and hover your mouse over the center image (the Wood Elves image) for a nice surprise :)

Yeah that pretty much seals the deal :)

It looks like we're getting our army book after all!

And those stag riders with the helmets look amazing. The Treeman in the background looks great too!

My goodness, yes!

I just quoted you for the tip on the rumor thread, greenman. I attached a little nice and neat screenshot :D

I simply cannot wait. i love the helmets. They somehow have a little dark elvish thingy that I just love. I hope we get these stags. They fit into the woodies army so much better than horses imo.

2 more weeks! Maybe less for some more artwork and pictures.

Not a fan of the helmets...at all. I hope that they give the option of unhelmeted WE. If indeed these pictures have any bearing on models.

Exciting find, well done Rogue Sun.

Really pleased to finally have something more concrete to muse over, the fact that it's armybook artwork is even better.

Personally I love it. Very much more of the same theme we've already got, which is great, we didn't need an overhaul. I'd said I didn't really want units of stags, but if they look that good and it's an interesting dual kit I'll be happy.

Absolutely hate the helmets. They look more like they should be on High Elves.

Ah you just made my day Rogue Sun...i like the artwork and the stags. A bit ambivalent about the helmet. A giant acorn with rantlers? Hmm...it maaay be cool...

I kinda think that's the point. With all of the new elf models, both HE and DE, they've been taking a very similar approach aesthetically to the core concept of their armor. Details here and there are different, as one would expect, but the general shape and "craftsmanship" is the same. I think this is to link the armies together more so that they do give the idea of them all having been the same race at one point.

Also, I can't take credit for the find. Aicanor over on Ulthuan made the original find. I simply posted it over here since I hadn't seen it before (and it wasn't the ridiculous nonsense Faeit produces).

I think it looks awesome! I liked Orions pose better when he was pointing. I wonder why he had to change it?! Hmmm?

I quite like the helmets! The face remind me of the Dryad heads you get on the sprues.

Looks like Stag riders are included then. I wonder if that will just be the regular Wild Riders.
Long live the King in the Woods!!!
