With the reorganization of the GW Web site, some .pdf files are hard to find. I have downloaded some of them and I post them here so you can access them.

storm of Chaos FAQ and Errata (this was official, and unfortunately one of the first files to disappear when the SoC event was over)

Great. Good stuff.

Is any of Storm of Chaos still current? What armies, lists, and variants are still legal?

The legality of the SoC armies varies from region to region. I don't think they're tournament legal in the UK, but it might be a different matter in the US. I have most of the SoC armylist downloads (which are now removed) if you want me to put them up...

That would be fine, I think. Remind the readers which ones are now obsolete with the release of new books.

Well, being as they were all written under 6th Edition rules that would make them all obsolete...

The only ones I don't have are the Middenheim army and Slayer army.

My understanding s that official variant lists remain 'active' until a revised armybook is released.

Since SoC
Dwarf
O&G
Empire
High Elves
Vampire Counts
Daemons

have been released and invalided lists based on those books. The Mortals list may also be out. The only exception is the Slayer list which is still good, but cannot use any of the new rules and abilities of the new Dwarf Book.

In practice I believe that means that:

Slayers (specific FAQ keeps them legal)
Cult of Slaanesh (until new DE book arrives)
Clan Eshin
Errantry War

are all still 'legal.

Then by that reasoning, Brets, Beasts of Chaos, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Ogre Kingdoms, Skaven, Tomb Kings, and Wood Elves should all be illegal too, since they're all 6th Edition Army Books.

The SoC lists that are obsolete are only the ones that have had a new AB since SoC (Empire/Army of Middenheim, Dwarves/Slayer Army, HE/Lother Sea Guard Army, Daemons/Daemonic Legion, VC/Army of Sylvania, and Chaos Mortals (the WD list)/Archaon's Horde). Others, like the Errantry War, Clan Eshin and Cult of Slaanesh list are all still techinically legal. Even still, the DE magic items from the Cult of Slaanesh list are all still legal for the current AB because the rules specifically say so.

As I said before, the SoC are usually all lumped together when it comes to legality. In the UK, they're all prohibited at tournaments, regardless of whether they've had a new book or not. All of the lists were written under 6th Edition rules so, technically, they're all illegal under 7th Edition rules (hence why UK tournaments don't allow them) but if someone wants to use them for friendly games, the legality of the lists doesn't matter.

Excuse the double post but, after receiving several PMs asking for them, I'll put the Durthu rules here :)

This is an international site, and the UK tournament rules may not apply everywhere. I'm sure CoS is legal in the US. Tethlis may well know best, and I remember the cheering when the Lothern list fell on the release of th High Elf book. That list was truely hated.

Thanks for Durthu.

I know UK rules don't apply everywhere :smirk: My point is that all the lists should be made available should people want to use them, regardless of whether they're tournament legal or not. As far as I'm concerned, they're still fine to use for friendly games so long as the opponent agrees.

Good collection. Damn GW:s new site making stuff so hard to find... grumble...

I always liked the Middenland army list and some of the Cult of Ulric units... A shame I can only use it in friendly games. Wolfkins... ah, so cool.

I have sent my mail to the legal department of Games Workshop. I expect a reply within a month :)
I also moved to to Asrai Discussion as it concerns us all in a way. I also feel it is more "visible" there.

The majority of rogue trader tournaments are still allowing the Cult of Slaanesh, based on the idea that Storm of Chaos lists are still legal until they receive a replacement army book. When the new Dark Elf book is released, the Cult list will finally fall into the same category as Middenheim, Grimgor's 'Ardboyz, etc. in terms of being obsolete in everything but friendly games. I haven't seen the tourney packets for the American GT scene yet, though I believe the Cult will NOT be allowed based on past precedent.

figured i'd add some more. Warbands is a sort of skirmish game that was in White Dwarf and online a while ago. Red/Sacred hosts are special lizardmen lists and bubonic court is a special skaven list. also the three missing SoC lists.
