The rule about "no minimum distance" inferred that you were placing them out of sight of the enemy but within 12". That is VERY hard to do now with true line of sight. And, as has been said, an 8th ed FAQ or errata nerfed them out of this benny.

I believe you are thinking in the right direction. Better, not more, should be the way to go for us. Small and elite. That's the ticket. If I want to play a large number of mediocre troops I will play Empire (Slam!)
