I've also seen another wood elf player cast the lore of beasts spell that confers +3 attacks to the way stalker with a bow of Loren and devestate a unit of cold one knights
So there's also that synergy that lies in the choice

Re: 2500 Points with Lord on Dragon
So I'd say your initial choices of units are good, but the need to stick to the MSU army composition taking the power and reliability out of your list. I think it's fine that units like glade guard are fine as MSU but units like eternal guard won't last too long in combat (if at all). So instead of ...

You could also use the highweaver in a unit of swiftshiver glade guard to boost their BS with hand of glory to put out a gross number of shots, hitting on 2's or 3's

Now you're thinkin' with portalshutobega wrote:hmmm interesting concept. I'd actually like to see a highborn kitted like you have in a bigger Wild wood ranger unit 30+ with a BSB armor piercing =P hmmmm kind of scary maybe? or flaming probably better since you want them into monsters hehe.

Re: Fun 2000 pt list vs Ogres
If I remember correctly, ogres can take trolls (and also have a spell that gives regen I think), so it maybe worth it to fit some flaming attacks somewhere (especially if you have no idea what he might bring). Not dealing with regen for a phase of shooting or close combat can definitely help in winn...

Re: Are People Using Highborns on Foot Now?
I could see using an on foot highborn as a reliable way to give stubborn and ld10 to a unit. Say crown of command, armor of silvered steel, great weapon and put her in a unit of tree kin or WWR. I'm kinda feelin' that.

Re: How to kit a dragon lord against skaven?
Have you considered using the Sisters of Twilight on their Dragon? They get a Similar number of attacks between them at Strength 4/5 (Spears) and one of them will have +1 to wound. Sure they are lacking in armour and toughness but bouncing back to full wounds will help with that, and you also get t...

Re: Treekin - worth a try
No, only Treekin are fodder. Where did you make the leap to everything in the book quiestdeus? Again, why have you assumed M5 bad per se? When combined with S4 and no static res, yes it is bad. Again, why have you assumed I am talking in isolation? These observations are the result of multiple game...

M5 troops also find it difficult to pick their combats.
Being in a horde formation also does that. Also M5 is really good, so if you're having trouble getting your troops in position, you need to re-evaluate your deployment and movement

I think the larger the point values are, the more viable glade riders become. Point denial doesn't seem very wise in low point values due to their unreliably and high point cost. But when we are talking 2.5k+, you can spend your points much more liberally

Re: Avoiding the net list.
I completely disagree with the Eternal Guard being just speed bumps. I have a great deal of success with both Eternal Guard (2 units of 20) and a unit of 25 Rangers to go with my Wild Riders, unit of archers and waywatchers. I have had a unit of the eternal guard mow through units of skaven that ar...

Re: Are People Using Highborns on Foot Now?
I wish there were a number of good builds for highborns on foot, because I have a lot of awesome highborn on foot models I'm not using right now :P
If I were to use one though, it would probably be in conjunction with lore of beasts, to give a close combat unit more punch

Re: Avoiding the net list.
You could always try running a horde focused list as well. A horde of dryads/WWR/eternal guard/tree kin supported by multiple smaller units is a list type I like running a lot.

Tirsyth, the Ashenhall Paint Scheme
Hey everyone, With my foray back into fantasy with our new book, that means it's time to start hobbying again. Now when I used to play in 6th edition I did a mainly brown and tan autumn scheme that was simple enough to batch paint and looked decent on that table. But now my second time around, I'd l...

Re: Phoenix as proxy
If you like the model and really want to use it, how about adding some green stuff and turning the flame effects into leaves, paint it in tree type colours then it's a forest eagle type of thing. Basically this. I was thinking of converting a phoenix to serve as a forest dragon, but since I have on...

Nice work, I'm really feeling the poses these dryads are in. They fill up the base and allude to the size of an official GW tree kin very well

Re: Using little to no magic in a competitive environment
Although I've never tried the idea myself, I feel as though large quantities of waystalkers would turn into a diminishing returns sort of situation where you CAN disable the enemy's magical abilities, but then when it comes to dealing with the rest of their army, the amount of points you tied up int...

Re: Lore of Light for Close Combat Elves
Well the only game I've used it was at 2k against DE that included a lot of close combat units (black guard, sisters etc). The amount of str4 hits I was dishing out each magic phase and rolling 2's to wound in the shooting phase tabled the guy on the 4th turn. He just couldn't stand up the the volum...

Re: Lore of Light for Close Combat Elves
Agreed, if you are just looking at buffing treekin then taking a level 4 lightweaver would probably be a waste, but as Jamob says, the odds of you getting the spells you want a fairly low. But if you are looking at doing a mostly close combat oriented list (I haven't tried no shooting but that isn'...

Re: BSB worth it?
I've been running with out a bsb since the book came out and I've yet to regret not having him. However my list plays incredibly spread out and the only things that aren't mobile are my EG. This limits the effectiveness of taking a bsb as at most he will be in range of a only a few units ..that at ...

Re: Lore of Light for Close Combat Elves
Yeah I've always wanted to try Lore of Light in conjunction with a block of tree kin, but I feel like choosing lore of light on a level 4 wizard a bit of a waste. There's only 2 or 3 spells that you would want to cast from the lore anyways (because let's face it, you aren't going to use the lore for...

Re: Glade Riders. Unreliable ambushers or solid core choice?
After some games with my trusted Glade Guard I'm actually turning towards featuring Riders instead. In all my games so far I've played very defensively and trying to shoot out as much as possible before the opponent reaches my side. I've also used wardancers to defend my archers. Both dancers and a...
