Re: Branching from Ulthuan [PLOG]
I love the Waystalker, it's a great combination of bits. I'd totally steal the idea if I could (as if I needed *another* hero model, I could field a whole Mordheim squad of just my various converted hero models but I digress). It looks like you sculpted some armor on to the waywatchers? Was it mostl...

A well deserved win. Having tried to paint the same model for the same purpose, mine didn't come out half as good.

I was going to guess Harlequin legs, they look really good on that model, well done.

That is a great looking spear. It makes me a bit jealous of the spear I used for my own dragon rider. Keep up the good work.

Re: Nonno's army - finished the 3 Treemen
As a new father myself, I completely agree. Keep the pink, it looks fantastic. I don't think you need to dull the green, but perhaps make it a shade or two darker? It almost seems like you tried to do two different paint schemes on one model, either on could work really well, but both together not s...

Re: Nonno's army - finished the 3 Treemen
I might have missed it earlier in the thread but why do you have the branches on the head fading from yellow through red to pink but the rest of the branches staying brown with green leaves?

Re: Weapon Skill Redux
Yes, I am aware that a 7+ on a d8 is easier than a 6+ on a d6. If you have anything constructive to add to the conversation I'd love to hear it. How would you refactor the to-hit mechanics from warhammer to introduce additional "bands" into the to-hit chart to make certain elite troops fee...

Re: Treeman vs Cannon
Don't let the lack of an official model stop you from taking a unicorn. Feel free to try it out using a proxy to see if you like something in the short term (for a long time, my Warhawk riders were proxied by ogres until I could finish converting the models I use now), then if you like you can try t...

Re: Weapon Skill Redux
I must sadly admit my complete ignorance of 3rd edition. If there is a digital copy of the BRB floating around, I'd love to get my hands on it. The KISS principle is great, but I think it is better stated "Everything should be as simple as possible to achieve your goals." Sometimes I think...

Well done, can't wait to see more. Are you using a premade base? or did you do all that work yourself? I like the contrast of the white skin on the Riders.

It was good. I'd only ever seen it done with Eldar Weapon teams so it was nice to see it applied to troops. Well done.
PS. It's nice to see someone else post a picture of the Mad Puppet Miniatures elf. It is one of my favorite poses.

Aezeal, do you mean point cost? or stat points? Both of which I am already planning on doing, just not gotten to them yet since I've had more important things taking up my time. Nobody is talking about making anything related to the to-hit or to-wound chart impossible. Just that certain extreme case...

Re: Treekin Alternative Ideas
For treekin, I have a unit of 5 assault terminators with dual thunderclaws (?) with the blades chopped off. Add some green stuff and several coats of roughcoat and you get some good looking golems. That option should still be available to you. I also have 4 rat ogres with the skaven iconography and ...

Weapon Skill Redux
Personally I think WS needs overhauling more than I does, and if done well, would remove the need for things like ASF, which is a clumsy mechanic anyway. This is a great point and I can think of a couple of ways of going about this. The first is expanding the range of the To Hit chart from 3-5 to 2...

Great input, you two! Those are some great suggestions and I look forward to working them into my project. At a glance, here is what I'm planning on including: ASF as an army wide rule will go away, certain units may keep it as a special rule and some armies may get a magic weapon that grants ASF. F...

So NonnoSte and Aezeal,
It sounds like all you guys would change is to get rid of the Stepping Up rule? Am I understanding you two correctly?

Re: Speculation on the fate of the Asrai (lore and gameplay)
I think it will be possible to keep the Wood Elf feel in a unified elf list but only with great difficulty and some personal exercise of will power and restraint. Throughout the 3 editions that we've had Wood Elves in their current form (I would submit that the 6th edition book and the 8th edition b...

Re: Are Treekin really that bad?
Treekin aren't that bad if you can integrate how you use them into your list. I've used them to great success just because in my army lists they are one of the only rank and file troops I use, giving my opponent something to fixate on.

While they may not have posted the exact special scenarios that would be coming up (bonus VPs for panic checks, etc) but some things like partial VPs for depleted units, separate VPs for riders/monstrous mounts: Did the separation come because they didn't publish those changes ahead of time? They di...

I am in the process of rethinking stats across the board, I just decided to start with Initiative because it seemed like it had the right balance of being easy to work with and most in need of a change. Possibly even trying to move to a d10 based system (maybe, that could be more work than even I am...

Fair enough, but I must admit that I don't see it. But I would appreciate your thoughts on how big a role I really plays. Unless your units are approaching the second rank (third rank for hordes) then casualties will not make an appreciable dent, if at all, in the models striking back. But that's wh...
